Fighting Chance Fantasy's Start/Sit Week 5

Quarterbacks

Start: Eli Manning, New York Giants vs. Seattle Seahawks. Since winning the Super Bowl, it seems that there is a new quarterback in New York, and it's not Brett Favre. Coming off their bye, the Giants will be playing the Seattle Seahawks, and that is good news for Eli Manning owners. In two career games against the Seahawks, Manning has thrown for 619 yards and five touchdowns. Eli is also at his best in the month of October, as he has thrown 20 touchdowns in just 12 games, and has averaged almost 200 yards a game over his career. Look for his strong season to continue with 250 yards and two touchdown passes, even with Plaxico Burress suspended for the game.

Start: Jake Delhomme, Carolina Panthers vs. Kansas City Chiefs. With his main man Steve Smith back in the lineup, Delhomme had his best game of the season by far, and threw his first touchdowns since Week 1. The Chiefs have actually been stronger than expected against the pass, but the Broncos were able to put up good stats against them in Week 4. The emergence of rookie Johnathan Stewart is helping to open up the passing game in Carolina as well. Look for the Delhomme/Smith connection to find each other plenty of times this weekend, and Delhomme should have 275 yards and two touchdowns and the Panthers will win.

Sit: Trent Edwards, Buffalo Bills vs. Arizona Cardinals. There are three reasons that I think that Edwards might not be a great play this week. First, the Cardinals defense has only allowed 204 yards passing per game so far this season. The second reason is that the 4-0 Bills are due to have a bad game. They are a decent team, but they aren't an undefeated type of team, and they have always been a run first offense. The third one is where I might lose some of you, but I feel very strong about this one. The Cardinals' pass defense was just embarrassed by Brett Favre and the Jets for six touchdowns. If you don't think they are making major adjustments so that doesn't happen again this week, you are crazy. Look for a much better week from teh Cardinals' defensive backfield in Week 5.

Sit: Jason Campbell, Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles. Campbell, after a horrible first week, really looks like he has a good grip on the new offense, and has had three straight good games. However, first he isn't this good. He isn't a 285 yard, two touchdown kind of quarterback. He is more of a 190 yard and one score kind of guy. Not to mention that the Eagles have one of the best defenses in football, and defensive coordinator Jim Johnson will be mixing up the plays so Campbell never gets comfortable. I would be shocked if he passed 190 yards and one touchdown.

Running Backs

Start: Steve Slaton, Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts. Slaton has had two good games since he has been named the starter in Houston, although they were quite different. His first game, against the tough Titans, he rushed for 116 yards, while in Week 4 against the tough Jags, he caught eight passes and scored another touchdown. It looks like Slaton can beat you in a number of different ways, and is having an impact on a Texans team that could use an offensive burst. The Colts have allowed almost 200 yards a game on the ground, and Slaton will have another good one, whether it is on the ground or through the air.

Start: Earnest Graham, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Denver Broncos.
Outside of one game against the Bears, Graham has picked up exactly where he left off in 2007. Unlike Ryan Grant in Green Bay, Graham is following up his breakout campaign with another strong season in which he is nine yards short of three 100 yard games. Denver just got torched for nearly 200 yards against the Chiefs and Larry Johnson in Week 4, and they allow over 130 yards a game on the ground. The Bucs offense has been really rolling this season, so look for Graham to have another 100 yard game, and find paydirt again.

Sit: Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans vs. Baltimore Ravens. Now he didn't seem like a good play against the stout Vikings run defense in Week 4, but Johnson had a great game, scoring twice. It gets no easier for the Titans' rookie this week against the physical Ravens defense. The Steelers nearly had to use coach Mike Tomlin out of the backfield the way the Ravens were injuring running backs on Monday night. Given the fact that Kerry Collins doesn't threaten anyone with his arm, look for the Ravens to focus on stopping Johnson, and he should have his worst game as a pro.

Sit: Chris Perry, Cincinnati Bengals vs. Dallas Cowboys.

The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 4 Review & Recap

Week 4 was a shocking week and really carried allot of players values up or down with the first quarter of the season completed. Many players finally showed themselves including some guys finally getting in the end zone. Others continued to cool off from hot starts. This was a very telling week in fantasy football. Lets review some of these weeks performances:

Quarterbacks (STOCK VALUE)
Jay Cutler - DOWNGRADED
Cutler had another tough game. The yards were there, but the TDs weren't. He's still one of the top QBs in the league, but he's coming way down from the 3 TDs per week from the first 2 weeks of the season.
Philip Rivers DOWNGRADED
Another high flying QB that came down to Earth with a 1 TD, 180 yard game. He's much better than that, and expect him to rebound next week.

Tony Romo UPGRADED
Great game for Romo in a tough loss. 300 yards and 3 TDs. There was a race between him and Cutler and Romo won so far.

Aaron Rodgers DOWNGRADED
Injured his shoulder in a loss to Tampa Bay. That is never good for a QB. Threw two TDs to Jennings and only a 165 yards. He always has the ability to score points, but we worry about his ability to spread the ball around and maximize points.
Jake Delhomme UPGRADED
Steve Smith is back and so is Delhomme. 294 yards and 2 TDs makes for a great game. We are still out on him mainly because it was Atlanta, but still a very good game.
Damon Huard UPGRADED
We liked him for week 4 if you were desperate and he did alright with 160 yards and a TD. He will continue to start, but probably won't have much value outside of a BYE week replacement in a deep league.

Brett Farve UPGRADED
6 TDs? He just wouldn't stop throwing. We are very high on the Grandpa of QBs and to prove it we draft him in 6 of 7 leagues. He should be playing from behind all season or at least most of it.

Drew Brees UPGRADED
Probably one of the most consistent QBs in fantasy football. 363 yards and 3 TDs. Brees is a gamer.
Donovan McNabb DOWNGRADED
McNabb has fallen since the first 2 games and we expected that. 262 yards and a TD is average at best. He did have Reggie Brown back as well.

J.T. O'Sullivan EVEN
We actually liked his performance this week with 257 yards and a TD. He will lose allot of touchdowns to Gore, but should do alright. He needs to get Davis involved and his numbers should go up.

Matt Schaub UPGRADED
ON the verge of being benched and he throws 3 TDs. What's even better? None went to Andre Johnson who is asleep at the wheel. When he wakes up Schaub could be a very deadly QB.

Carson Palmer DOWNGRADED
His shoulder was hurt and he shocked us all by not playing. He looked better in week 3, but he's playing an angry Dallas team on the road. Not good.

Trent Edwards EVEN
This is what you can expect out of Edwards most weeks. 200 yards and a TD. You might get more on occasion, but for the most part you'll get that.

Runningbacks (STOCK VALUE)

Brain Westbrook DOWNGRADED
He should be back next week, but putting up a fat zero hurts your value.

Marion Barber DOWNGRADED
This is the downside of Marion Barber. He will have bad weeks and when they are bad, they are bad. Look for him to rebound against Cincy.

Steve Slaton UPGRADED
Another great game, but this time through the air. He caught 8 passes for 83 yards and 1 TD. He is very versatile and expect the Texans to take advantage of that. This guy looks good.

Reggie Bush EVEN
Very bad game for him and first week without a score. We wouldn't drop his stock, but instead chalk it up as a weird game.

Matt Forte DOWNGRADED
85 total yards, but we are afraid that this is the Matt Forte and Bears offense we expected. It does worry us, but looking at it they were going up against a tough defense with confusing schemes. Watch how Forte reacts next week to see his character. We think he'll be fine.

Larry Johnson UPGRADED
Huge game and his value is skyrocketing. 200+ yards and 2 TDs. Way to go Larry.

Michael Turner DOWNGRADED
Off and On again Michael Turner. Another let down week. The only positive I can pull out of this is next week should be big.

Ryan Grant DOWNGRADED
186 yards in 4 weeks? How about ZERO TDs. Trade this guy ASAP. Gaining value will be tough from this point.
Thomas Jones DOWNGRADED
I hate to do that, but he is downgraded. He did get caught up in a shootout and that will happen often. He still has allot of value, but from this point temper your expectations.
Wide Receiver (STOCK VALUE)

Terrell Owens DOWNGRADED
He will have bad games, but they won't happen back-to-back weeks. He's still in the top 3.

Miles Austin UPGRADED
Another TD. He reminds everyone in Dallas of Terry Glenn.

Eddie Royal UPGRADED
9 catches and over 100 yards. Didn't find the end zone, but certainly will many times this season.

Robert Meacham UPGRADED
With Colston and Shockey out look for Meachem to continue to get more involved. He caught 2 passes for 86 yards and is a constant deep threat for New Orleans.
Kevin Walters UPGRADED
Something is wrong with Andre Johnson. In the mean time this guy is excelling with 8 catches and 2 TDs.

Chansi Stuckey EVEN
You can't catch TDs every game even when there are 6 of them!
Jerricho Cotchery UPGRADED
He was beginning to develop into a letdown, but blew up. He's a poor man's Greg Jennings. Own him, its a must with Farve.

Plaxico Buress DOWNGRADED
Had a tough game, but still one of the best at getting balls that cornerbacks cannot.

Andre Johnson DOWNGRADED
Again, the Texans are is disarray, but Johnson dropped two TD passes, so he's downgraded. We still expect him to explode no matter who throws to him.

Torry Holt DOWNGRADED
He is on the decline and I would run away if you have him.

DeSean Jackson UPGRADED
Had an alright, but uneventful game against a brutal defense. We expect more out of him in the coming weeks.

Reggie Brown EVEN
He came back from injury and got 6 catches for 79 yards. Keep an eye on him as he should improve.
Robert Meachem UPGRADED
He is and will be a starter in New Orleans from this point on. With so many receivers injured he is the goto guy. OWN HIM!
Lance Moore UPGRADED
2 TDs and a great game. He is upgraded, but temper your expectations. We don't see him getting 2 TDs in a game again this year, but a TD is still in the mix.
Lee Evans UPGRADED
Only 2 catches, but 88 yards and a TD. Very good game, and he should get 2-3 bombs a week. The only questions are, will he catch them and will they be for touchdowns.
Greg Jennings UPGRADED
We love this guy. He has turned into an absolute stud wide receiver. 2 TDs (one the DB fell down) and all those yards speaks volumes. He is a catch (PUN ALERT).
Lavernues Coles UPGRADED
Explosion. Coles got 3 TDs! How many of us wanted to cut this guy. Farve's value increases now that these two have connected. Huge game, big WR.
Patrick Crayton DOWNGRADED
He caught allot of passes from Romo in week 4, but he is losing favor to Austin Miles.
Braylon Edwards UPGRADED
He didn't do much, but he did find the end zone and that certainly deserves a upgrade.

Tight Ends (STOCK VALUE)
Vernon Davis DOWNGRADED
This is just sad. Very sad.
Robert Royal DOWNGRADED
Another bad game.

Antonio Gates UPGRADED
Still making big catches and added a TD.
Kellen Winslow DOWNGRADED
Only 5 catches against Cincinnati and no TDs yet. Hopefully the BYE week will help this team.

Jason Witten UPGRADED
Tons of pass targets and finally got in the end zone. He is Romo's favorite target.
Dustin Keller UPGRADED
Got a TD pass and 3 catches. Farve is now looking for him.
Chris Cooley DOWNGRADED
Its the Sanatan Moss show and until he vanishes it will stay that way.

The Guru Gridiron Report: Expert League Week 4 Games

2008 Fantasy Football Search Expert League

The Guru Gridiron Report has an exciting week 4 of action in the Fantasy Football Search Expert League. There were not only very close games decided by 2 points or less, but we had our share of blowouts and upsets or BLOWSETS as I'll call them. On paper there were some mismatches, but paper didn't matter this week. Lets review the games.

The expert league being hosted at http://www.fantasyfootballsearch.com/2008_fantasy_football_expert_league.asp. Every week will bring you updates, scores, and analysis of what went on in that week in The 2008 Fantasy Football Search Expert League.

NFL Fantasy Playbook 91, Fantasy Football Search 64
This was a brutal match up for The True Guru. Not only was it a blowout my way on paper, but AJ even decided to go with all his Raiders. It was a blood bath. -3 points from my Cardinal defense with my Patriots defense on the BYE. My two WRs Hank Basket and Ike Hillard had a total of 6 points. AJ got great games out of Michael Bush, Bills defense, and JaMarcus Russell. This is one win AJ will never forget.

Big Game Fantasy Sports 101, Nooffseason.com 62
Patrick finally got into the win column with another blowset over Paul Hickey's team. Patrick was relentless with his Buccaneers defense, and his wide receivers Justin Gage and Lee Evans. Paul had an off week with Cutler, DJ Hacket, and Darren McFadden. Overall it was a huge win for Big Game Fantasy Sports and hopefully is building momentum for week 5.

Fighting Chance Fantasy 119, Owners Box Sports 148
Joe from Owners Box Sports ran his record to 4-0 defeating Ryan Hallam with a dominating team performance of Drew Brees, Terrell Owens, Anquan Boldin, Jamel Lewis, and Correll Buckhalter. Across the board his team played very well. Ryan scored allot of points himself and just got overpowered. He did have stellar performances in a losing cause from his WR core of Derrick Mason, Brandon Marshall, and Lance Moore who netted him a combined 74 points.

Xtreme Fantasy Football 152, Fantasy Sports Zone 150
Mike Bowser remained undefeated barely squeaking by Rhett Oldham by less than 2 points (rounded). Both teams played outstanding and this game was a back and forth shootout. FSZ came with Lavernues Coles and Antonio Gates, but was matched by Team Bowser with Greg Jennings and Jason Witten. XFF's key to winning was his small victory of Kuer Wanrer over Philip Rivers 18-10. A few more completed passes from Rivers and this game belonged to Rhett.

Junkyard Jake 107 Johnny Archive 123
Johnny Archive evened up his record with a big win over Junkyard Jake's own RC. This match was very close, but in the Santana Moss and Larry Johnson performed a magical 62 total points and that was more than enough to put distance between him and RC. RC has to consider cutting Todd Heap who put up a goose egg at the TE position. The key match up that decided this game was Marshawn Lynch vs. Larry Johnson, which Johnny won 37-11.

Pro Fantasy Games 159, Fantasy Football Starters 100
Pro Fantasy Football earned his first win and did it in amazing fashion. First he beat the best team so far in the league and did it scoring the most points for week 4. Jeff's mighty band of merry men were slaughtered by the onslaught created by Kevin Walter, Steve Slaton, and DeSean Jackson. Even Braylon Edwards scored a TD for Chris this week. Fantasy Football Starters but up a valiant effort to score 100 points in a losing effort led by Steve Smith and Frank Gore. It was Fantasy Football Starters first loss of the season.

Mock Draft Central 106, Scout Fantasy Football 104
Two teams coming off stinging losses in week 3 tried to get off the snide and Mock Draft Central pulled of the miracle 2 point win sending Scout Fantasy Football to its second straight loss. This match up was so tight that LT, Jerricho Cotchery, and Jason Campbell totalled 72 points against Jeff's three of Steven Jackson, Donnie Avery, and David Garrard's 71 points. The difference in this game was simple. It came down to the kickers who scored 8-0 in favor of MDC. Josh Brown scored zero for Scout Fantasy Football.

Week 5 Match Ups:

Fantasy Football Starters (3-1) Vs Xtreme Fantasy Football (4-0)
Match up of the week. Both division leaders square off in week 5. Mike Bowser is looking to continue his undefeated season and Jeff is coming off his first loss and a hard one at that.

Fantasy Sports Zone (1-3) Vs Nooffseason.com (1-3)
FSZ and Nooffseason battle for division ranking in a critical must win game. The winner steps closer to .500, the loser falls deeper at 1-4.

Fantasy Football Search (2-2) Vs. Owners Box Sports (4-0)
Another great match up sporting The True Guru coming off a terrible loss against the undefeated Owners Box Sports. Joe is heavily favored, but The True Guru is hoping to pull off the upset just like AJ did to him in week 4.

Scout Fantasy Football (2-2) Vs. Fighting Chance Fantasy (1-3)
The Scout has lost 2 match ups in a row and hopes to stop the bleeding against Fighting Chance Fantasy. Ryan Hallam has a good team that has under performed, and so has Jeff's lately. The winner of this match up will be the one who's real team shows up.

Junkyard Jake (2-2) Vs Mock Draft Central (2-2)
Great match up of the deuces being wild. Both RC and Geoff are 2-2 coming into week 5. The winner of this game gets the proud distinction of going above .500. These teams are evenly matched and there is no way to predict the outcome. Good Luck.

Johnny Archive (2-2) Vs Big Game Fantasy Sports (1-3)
Johnny Archive and Big Game Fantasy Sports have a clash of momentum. Both teams are coming off strong wins. Patrick has the advantage in this match up, but Johnny has heard that before.

Pro Fantasy Games (1-3) Vs. NFL Fantasy Playbook (1-3)
This is another fun game, but one that is very important to both teams. Both teams earned there first wins in week 4 and both need to get a second win this week. The good news is one team will get that win and it looks to be Pro Fantasy Games. AJ might have another Raider up his sleeve, so watch out.

The Guru Gridiron Report: The True Guru Struggles 3-3 in Week $

Leagues: 6 (3 Yahoo!, 2 CBS Sportsline, 1 ESPN)
Total Record: 19-5
This was a very tough week for me and even though I pulled out a 3-3 record it was 6 hard fought match ups. I did make a trade this week. In the Coast 2 Coast league I traded Ronnie Brown for Frask Gore. I feel that Ronnie Brown's value is very high and Frank Gore is a much more sable runningback to have the rest of the season. He will join Michael Turner and Brain Westbrook in the backfield.
Here are my 6 match ups this week:

Coast 2 Coast League

The damkids are normally not a very good team, but they gave me a run for my money and with the Bears defense this game went down to the wire. I have a very poor performance from Michael Turner and starter Brian Westbrook in hopes that he would play with Ronnie Brown on the BYE week. Lee Evans, who I started in Brown's place at FLEX did great along with Witten and Fitzgerald. I did bench Farve over Warner in this league as Farve is the backup. That may change in the future.

Football Dynasty VI

Abraham Drinkin' has quickly turned into a rival for me and though the score shows a big win, it was closer than it looks. Again, due to the injury bug I benched Farve and put in O'Sullivan. The point difference was huge. My receiving core and Tony Romo got the job done here. Lee Evans, Terrell Owens, Greg Jennings, and Steve Smith all got me over 23 points. Romo, 39 points. On the defensive side not much luck except for DB Michael Lewis, 27.5 points.

J.A.I.L. League

Another tough match that was closer then the score shows. I will admit I scored the highest score in the league for this week. For the second straight week I started Steve Slaton and he did not let me down. My receiving core also came through big time with Fitzgerald, DeSean Jackson, Terrell Owens. Reggie Williams was a bust, but Jason Witten made up for that. Overall great week for me and so far my strongest. I did bench Farve for Campbell in this game as well.

Vegas Vs Texas League

This time I started Farve against the top team in this league and our division. His team performed well and even with 6 TDs from Farve I could not pullout the win. Even with starting Slaton, no win. My busts here were Marion Barber and no Brian Westbrook who I benched here. Andre Johnson and the Vikings defense also sucked BIG TIME. I'm looking to trade for a defense in this league as the Vikings and Cardinals aren't cutting it. The Cardinals will be cut.

NSP Experts League

This was an interesting week. I scored the second highest amount of points, but the guy who got the first highest score was the guy I played. Everyone has weeks like that. I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but my receiving core of Brandon Marshall, DeSean Jackson, and Robert Meachem totalled 53 points and Drew Brees popped in 25. It wasn't enough against Catchery, Delhomme, Jason Witten, and LT. Again a great expert match up, but my first loss in the league.

Fantasy Football Search Expert League

This was just a bad week and a bad game for my team. I was upset by my good buddy AJ and it hurt. He carried mostly Raiders and managed to trash me by 27 points. I got nothing out of most of my team. BYEs did hurt a little with Randy Moss gone, but I still would have loss. I need to rework this team with a 2-2 record.

NFL TOUCHDOWN SUNDAY SNIDE REMARKS - WEEK 4

Chicago Bears 24, Philadelphia Eagles 20
The Bears deserved to win this game, but the Eagles also deserve to have it said that Brian Westbrook did not play.
Then again, neither did Tommie Harris.
It’s going to be fun to watch the maturation of DeSean Jackson. He reminds me of Santonio Holmes in that he’s a high draft pick who is returning punts and adding speed to the offense, while at the same time, enduring some hard lessons and brutal growing pains. Potential-wise, Jackson has a slight edge over Holmes.
The Bears run defense remains dominant. So far, not one team has been able to successfully counter Cchicago’s tactic of bringing their linebackers up to the line of scrimmage.
What does Jim McMahon in the first half + Rex Grossman in the second half equal? Answer: Kyle Orton in this game.
Philly got lucky with Devin Hester Sunday Night. For the most part, they kicked to him and manned up in their coverage. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t foolish to give him opportunities in the first place.
Here’s why th Eagles, at 2-2, are still one of the top teams in the NFL: their defense is solid and the young linebackers are improving (Chris Gocong was exceptional in this game; Stewart Bradley has an intriguing blend of instinct and athleticism), and their offense is moving the ball despite being without Westbrook, top receiver Kevin Curtis, franchise tight end L.J. Smith and All-World guard Shawn Andrews.
Nathan Vasher and Charles Tillman got banged up late. Let’s hope they’re alright – Chicago can’t survive with both guys out of the lineup.

Washington Redskins 26, Dallas Cowboys 24
This game was surprisingly simple to figure out: Washington came in and plain beat the Cowboys. Offense, defense, special teams, coaching – it was all decisively in favor of the Skins.
A healthy Santana Moss is to this offense what Jason Briggs is to the American Pie series: if he’s in, it has a chance to be great; if he’s not in, it mostly stinks.
On Sunday Moss had his way with Terence Newman. This has happened before. Newman – who, as many of you know, I believe is the best cornerback in football – has one, sometimes two absolute craphole outings a year. This was his craphole outing for ’08. He’ll bounce back.
Clinton Portis is a stud. I’m just waiting for Troy Aikman to burst out of the closet and officially declare his undivided love for him.
Jason Campbell is progressing in Jim Zorn’s offense mainly because Jim Zorn is progressing in calling plays in Jim Zorn’s offense. Campbell is not just a system guy – he is athletic and savvy enough to make improvisational plays. Zorn has learned this and has opened up the playbook for him, which is the main reason Washington has won three straight.
Terrell Owens might be ruffling more feathers in Big D than people realize. After this game, he subtly griped about the number of passes coming his way (though from the sound of it, he was answering a loaded question from a sound-bite scavenging media). The Cowboys seem to be forcing the ball to T.O. This was a problem in the first half Sunday because Shawn Springs was on Owens like stink on a Frenchman.
Tens of millions of people saw that Pacman Jones had his facemask grabbed on a punt return. Not among those tens of millions, however, was the official near the play. But what stood out about this was Jones’s livid reaction. If this had been basketball, Jones would have been ejected immediately. I’ve always wondered, Why do football players, helmets or no helmets, get away with so much verbal abuse of the officials?
In a losing effort, DeMarcus Ware at Chris Samuels’s lunch.

New York Jets 56, Arizona Cardinals 35
472 yards passing for Kurt Warner. Six touchdowns for Brett Favre. Seven turnovers for the Cardinals. The Jets score their 54th point late in the game and then go for two. The Cardinals unload a slew of onside kicks starting in the third quarter. Tell me this doesn’t sound like you and your buddy’s game of Madden.
I don’t think Eric Smith had malicious intent in his devastating hit on Anquan Boldin, but the NFL still has to suspend Smith for this. It might be the most egregious example of helmet-to-helmet contact on a defenseless receiver that I’ve ever seen. Even though Smith got his own bell rung and was probably exhibiting only aberrational violence, the leagues still has to send a message and sit the guy down for a game or two. Boldin could have been killed.
P.S. The Cardinals were killed. Fifty six points to a Jets offense that was less cohesive than Congress just six days before? I doubt we’ll see Ken Whisenhunt keep his team on the east coast for an entire week again.

The Story of the Matt Millen Era

He finally did it. Didn’t think he had it in him, did ya?
You were wrong. After his team began its annual meltdown early this year, William Clay Ford, owner of the 0-3 Detroit Lions, anticipated the inevitable rage of the hometown fan base and made the move that virtually all of Michigan had been calling for since the burst of the dot-com bubble. Ford fired Matt Millen. Millen’s final record as Lions GM and President was 31-83.
This time, the Detroit Lions were finally a step ahead. It’s the first time they’ve been in such position since the Barry Sanders era. And, not coincidentally, it was the end of that era that created the first pothole for this last era.
When Millen was hired in 2001, one of his first moves was trying to coax Sanders out of retirement. Turns out, this was actually the first sign of a problem. It was like the bed wetting that precedes the animal torture by eight years and the serial killing by 20. Hired to move the franchise forward and into the future, Millen began by desperately looking back and into the past. It didn’t work out – the Sanders move or the eight years that followed it.

Fighting Chance Fantasy's On The Radar--Week 4

Steve Smith, WR, New York Giants. After having an injury plagued season, Steve Smith made a nice impact at the end of the season and playoff runs as the Giants won the Super Bowl. With this team mandated suspension for Week 5 or Plaxico Burress, Smith becomes a sneaky good play next week. Smith had just four catches through two weeks in 2008, but was able to haul in seven passes in Week 3, and he should become more and more of the Giants offense as he proves his worth. Throughout his short NFL career, Smith has shown the ability to make the tough catch as well as the deep ball. If he continues to get the chance, he could be an integral part of the Giants offense.

Steve Slaton, RB, Houston Texans. The rookie running back from West Virginia definitely made the most of his opportunity to start a game as Ahman Green was unable to go. Slaton had an early 50 yard run on his way to a 116 yard rushing game. Slaton also caught four passes, although it was for only eight yards. Given the injury history of Green, Slaton has been named the starter for the Texans for the forseeable future, grab him if you can.

Rudi Johnson, RB, Detroit Lions. When Johnson was cut by the Bengals before the season started, he was also cut by many fantasy players. Johnson showed that he has a grip on the Lions offensive scheme as he got 14 carries to rookie Kevin Smith's three. Johnson also caught three passes for 48 yards and a touchdown as it looks like he might have the leg up as the starter in Detroit next week.

Correll Buckhalter, RB, Philadelphia Eagles. Brian Westbrook left the game with against the Steelers in the second quarter with a knee/ankle injury after stepping on his own lineman. Buckhalter came in and continued to give the Eagles the kind of production that they could have hoped for if Westbrook had not been injured. Buckhalter rushed for 43 yards and caught six passes including a nifty 20 yard touchdown. If Westbrook is injured for any stretch of the season, Buckhalter could be a huge addition to your fantasy team.

Jabar Gaffney, WR, New England Patriots. After finishing last three weeks of 2007 with 14 catches, it was thought that Gaffney might have more of a role this season. But Gaffney didn't even have a catch until Week 3 when he caught six balls for 51 yards and a touchdown. I think that they Pats will continue to open up the playbook as Cassel becomes more comfortable, and Gaffney will have more of a role.

Lance Moore, WR, New Orleans Saints. Saints offensive players are falling like With the injury to Marques Colston, someone had to pick up the slack with the passing game. Moore had just three catches through two weeks, but broke out with seven grabs against the Redskins. Drew Brees spreads the ball around so much that if you are in need of help at receiver, Moore could help you out while Colston is on the sideline.

As always, we welcome your emails with all questions at fightingchancefantasy@gmail.com. I guarantee a response within 18 hours.

The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 4 Bench/Start Defenses

So far we have had some great success this season, but week 4 delivers the first serious challenge of the season and the biggest of its type we will see all season long. The bye weeks have started and in week 4 you will see 6 teams taking the week off and they include; New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, and Detroit Lions.
Expect to see an active free agency for wide receivers and quarterbacks, but not as much on the runningback side. Examining the 6 teams that have the week 4 bye, fantasy owners will miss roughly 10 wide receivers and 5 quarterbacks, while losing only 5 runningbacks. So grab the wide receivers if they are still out there and you are in need. As for the quarterbacks, here are our recommendations:

DEFENSES AND YOU MUST START
Its another risk, but we think Arizona matches up well against the NY Jets this week. We also think that it will be a field day for Pittsburgh against the Flacco led Ravens. The Minnesota/Tennessee match up looks intriguing and we figure it to be a low scoring affair, so start both. Philadelphia will feast on the Bears. Start them.

Others: Chicago, Dallas, Tampa Bay, Buffalo, San Diego

Other DEFENSES To Consider Starting With Some Risk
Not much here to discuss for a second straight week. Jacksonville should have some success against Houston, but Houston will put up some points.
Others: Baltimore, Houston, Green Bay

Please Bench These DEFENSES

Cincinnati, NY Jets, New Orleans, Oakland, San Francisco

Good luck.

The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 4 Bench/Start WRs & TEs

WIDE RECEIVERS YOU MUST START
Absolutely brutal week for wide receivers. Look to Steve Smith to make an appearance in the end zone this weekend along with foe Roddy White. Yes we are going to say, start Braylon Edwards. This is a big breakout game for him and he should have success. DeSean Jackson ill be fun to watch against Chicago and should catch a bomb against their tough defense and Tillman is bound to fall down once. Chad Johnson loves playing Cleveland and his partner T.J. Houshmandzadeh will get plenty of pass targets. Look for Eddie Royal to get back on the TD trail against KC. Dallas's defense allows the big pass, so there is little doubt that Santana Moss will catch at least one. If there ever was a week to start Lee Evans, now is the time.

Others: Terrell Owens, Larry Fitzgerald, Brandon Marshall, Santonio Holmes, Vincent Jackson, Chris Chambers, Jerricho Cotchery, Greg Jennings, Anquan Boldin, Andre Johnson, Dwayne Bowe

TIGHT ENDS YOU MUST START

Jason Witten, Antonio Gates, Bo Scaife, Chris Cooley, Tony Scheffler, Tony Gonzalez

Other Wide Receivers To Consider Starting With Some Risk
We like Josh Reed this week against the Rams sorry defense. We also feel that Torry Holt should score with Trent Green heaving it up all day. Its a must win for Houston, so look for them to throw everything at Jacksonville. Kevin Walters should have a nice game if all goes well. Ike Hillard has been off and on, and this week we think he will be on. We like Bryant Johnson this week again, so give him a go.
Others: Hank Basket, Lavernues Coles, Joey Galloway, Matt Jones, Devery Henderson

Other Tight Ends To Consider Starting With Some Risk

Dante Rosario, Robert Royal, Vernon Davis, Dustin Keller, Mercedes Lewis

Please Bench These Wide Receivers
Bench Donald Driver against Tampa Bay.
Others: Hines Ward, Derrick Mason, Patrick Crayton, David Patten, Isaac Bruce, Dante Stallworth

Please Bench These Tight Ends

Todd Heap, Alge Crumpler, Bubba Franks, Donald Lee.

Sleeper Wide Receivers
We have several sleeper wide receivers and they star with comedian Dane Looker. Miles Austin impressed us last week. He won't get many targets, but he is slowly becoming the #2 guy in Dallas and a serious deep threat for Romo. Chanci Stuckey should get a 4th TD as long as Farve plays and Brandon Lloyd has developed into Orton's goto guy. Jerry Porter should make a rare appearance on the field and make the most of it. Our biggest sleeper of the week is Robert Meachem. With no Colston or Shockey, Meachem will get plenty of looks. Keep an eye on Josh Morgan for San Francisco. We aren't calling him to do big things, but he could surprise us this week.

Good luck. Next are our Defenses!

The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 4 Bench/Start Runningbacks

SO far we have had some great success this season, but week 4 delivers the first serious challenge of the season and the biggest of its type we will see all season long. The bye weeks have started and in week 4 you will see 6 teams taking the week off and they include; New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, and Detroit Lions.

SO grab the wide receivers if they are still out there and you are in need. As for the quarterbacks, here are our recommendations:

RUNNINGBACKS YOU MUST START
Week 4 has some intriguing match ups and affords us only a few losses with the bye week. Chris Perry has the power to explode on Cleveland and should easily find the end zone. His counterpart Jamal Lewis, if healthy will also find success this week and pay dirt. Michael Turner will continue his incredible season with a great match up against Carolina. Then there is our friend Marion Barber who is an absolute must start, but in his past he hasn't had the greatest games against Washington with only 1 TD in 5 games. Temper expectations for Barber. Finally we expect Steven Jackson to be used allot against Buffalo and get a touchdown.

Others: Maurice Jones-Drew, Frank Gore, Reggie Bush, LaDainian Tomlinson, Brian Westbrook (watch injury status), Marshan Lynch

Other Runningbacks To Consider Starting With Some Risk
There are several runningbacks who are mid-tier, but can provide some serious pop. Darin Sproles will see allot of action against Oakland and could easily score 1-2 TDs. Its a bit of a risk with him not starting, but not much. Larry Johnson will find room against Denver, but there should be concern with Denver blowing out KC and them abandoning the run. Thomas Jones will be used early and often against Arizona. Steve Slaton showed us he's the starter in Houston and should find some holes against Jacksonville. Ernest Graham is coming off a tough week, but will get some yards against the Packers in his own house.
Others: Matt Forte, Adrian Peterson, Darren McFadden, Ryan Grant

Please Bench These Runningbacks
One match up we don't like is Ray Rice and Le'Ron McClain will find little success against Pittsburgh, so bench them. Same thing with the brutal combo of LenDale White and Chris Johnson. No success against Minnesota.

Others: Clinton Portis, Edgerrin James

Sleeper Runningbacks
Our three sleepers this week are Rashard Mendenhall and Tim Hightower. We expect Hightower to score 1 or 2 TDs in goal line situations and with 10 carries minimum. Rashard Mendenhall should overpower the #1 run defense in the league and will be leaned on with Big Ben hurting. Finally we love Andre Hall this week. Selvin Young should also run easy and free, but we expect Hall to break off some big runs this week and score once or twice.

Good luck. Next are our Wide Receivers and Tight Ends!

The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 4 Bench/Start Quarterbacks

As for the quaterbacks, here are our recommendations:

QUARTERBACKS YOU MUST START
Week 4 shapes up to be a week that quarterbacks who haven't shined so far can have breakout games. One game of key interest is a developing tornado of passing over the Ohio at Cleveland vs. Cincinnati. We look for Derek Anderson to have a strong performance to save his job throwing no less then 3 TDs. On the other side, we see Carson Palmer continuing to improve from his last week performance and adding 3 himself. Another shootout will occur down in New Orleans, only the Saints will be on the bigger end. Drew Brees will continue his hot hand, while counterpart J.T. O'Sullivan will have a 2 TD performance and both will collect plenty of yards. Finally, will the real David Garrard please show himself on the field of play. Week 4 against Houston at home provides Garrard a breakout opportunity with possible healthy wide receivers.

Others: Tony Romo, Kurt Warner, Jay Cutler, Philip Rivers

Other Quarterbacks To Consider Starting With Some Risk
There are some very good mid-tier quarterbacks to start this week and we start with Trent Edwards against the hopeless St. Louis Rams. We expect the Rams to play a little tougher and the Bills to run the ball, but Edwards should have a solid game. Jason Campbell will be playing from behind in Dallas and he will sneak a bomb or two pass the Dallas defenders. Matt Ryan and Jake Delhomme will exchange pleasantries in a tough NFC South battle. Its a risk to guess how many of the passes they throw land for TDs or INTs, but we expect allot of passes thrown. You have to like the numbers. Aaron Rodgers is facing his biggest test of the season. We have to say start him if you don't have a higher tier QB, but beware that Tampa can make life hard on the young QB. We do think that the Green Bay offense matches up well with the Tampa Bay defense. If Aaron Rodgers does well expect Brian Griese to throw 60 more passes this week playing catch up.
Others: Matt Schaub, Kerry Collins, Brett Farve, Ben Roethlisberger

Please Bench These Quarterbacks
Gus Ferotte didn't play to expectations, so bench him until he shows us he's worth it. JaMarcus Russell will not have success against San Diego except for some late dirt in a likely blowout game. I apologize on behalf of all fantasy football experts if you've been forced to start Joe Flacco, but again bench him. Here is our surprise of the week. We do not like Donovan McNabb going to Chicago and performing well against the fast moving Bears Linebackers. This would be a week to bench McNabb.
Others: JaMarcus Russell, Kyle Orton,

Sleeper Quarterbacks
We only have two sleepers this week. Trent Green should provide a quick, but short spark for the Rams at home against Buffalo. He should be able to get 225 yards and 1, maybe 2 TDs. We also like Damon Huard against Denver. Cutler's crew will wipe out KC, but with home field and a big deficit to dig out of Huard can easily get enough junk points to add up.

Good luck. Next are our Runningbacks!

Fighting Chance Fantasy's Start/Bench Week 4

Quarterbacks

Start: Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns.
Do you remember last year's game between these two teams? If not, I will refresh your memory with Palmer's line. 33/50 for 401 yards and SIX touchdowns. Now, I'm not saying to expect that kind of production again, but now that the Bengals have shown some sort of life, coupled with the fact that the Browns defense is still horrible, I think you can expect 300 yards and two or three scores from Palmer this week.

Start: J.T. O'Sullivan, San Francisco 49ers vs. New Orleans Saints.
The Saints defense has had as much backbone as a mud puddle so far this season, and with the suddenly confident 49ers as their opponent this week, they could be giving up a bunch more yardage. O'Sullivan has thrown for over 500 yards without an interception the past two weeks, and he seems to be getting more comfortable in his role. The Mike Martz system looks to be a good fit for him and the Niners as they haven't scored 30 points in back to back games since I was in high school it seems. Now if you have either Peyton Manning or J.T. O'Sullivan I'm not saying start O'Sullivan, but if your other option is questionable, he could give you 250 yards and another two touchdowns.

Sit: Jason Campbell, Washington Redskins vs. Dallas. Campbell has been a great story over the past couple of games after it seemed like his talent and coach Jim Zorn's system matched like peanut butter and sardines. But the last two games he has thrown for over 500 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. However, in Week 4 he will face the best defense he has gone against all season in Dallas. I would expect under two hundred yards, and if he throws one touchdown I would consider that lucky.

Sit: Matt Schaub, Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars.
Through two games, Schaub hasn't reached 400 passing yards, and still has only thrown one touchdown against five interceptions. Texans' fans were hopeful coming into 2008 after the team finished strong last year, but so far out of the gate, the Houston has looked horrible. Of course, they have played two great defensive teams in the Steelers and Ravens, but the task doesn't get any easier this week against the Jaguars. Hopefully, the running attack of Steve Slaton will open up the passing game more than it has been so far, but I wouldn't run that risk this week.

Running Backs

Start: Chris Perry, Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns.
I hate to really pick on a team twice in this same column, but the Browns have been so bad that Perry is a great play too. He finally showed us some of his potential as he ran for 74 yards and a score, and now has a touchdown in two straight games. The Browns are allowing almost 150 yards on the ground a game, so look for Perry to get to about 125 and score for the third straight game.

Start: Marshawn Lynch, Buffalo Bills vs. St. Louis Rams.
I make no secret about it, I am a Marshawn Lynch fan. If he can just keep himself out of trouble off the field, I think he can be a top 5-7 running back in the NFL. The Bills are a run first team, and they have found themselves a workhorse. And the Rams, well how can I say this nicely? Well, they suck. That's as nice as I can be. They have been getting gashed against the run, so Lynch should have another big game.

Sit: Matt Forte, Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles. I am also quickly becoming a fan of Matt Forte. He has shown the ability to be an every down back as well as catching some balls out of the backfield. Forte has had no less than 23 carries in a game so far, and looks to be the Bears' starter for years to come. All that being said, the Philadelphia defense has been STINGY, not even allowing 50 yards rushing per game. Forte will be great, but look for a better matchup this week if you have it.

Sit: Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers.
Although it has been close the Panthers haven't allowed a back to rush for 100 yards through three games. Considering they've played against LaDanian Tomlinson, Matt Forte, and Adrian Peterson this is no small feat. Granted, Turner has had two amazing games, but they did come against the Chiefs and the Lions, not exactly defensive studs. The Panthers have a pretty good defense, and we shall see if Turner starts a good game/bad game trend.

Wide Receivers

Start: Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos.
I know, the QB situation in Kansas City is horrible, even if Damon Huard is able to start(which is possible). But Bowe has been a nice consistent receiver this year, and already has 15 catches and two scores in three games. The Broncos pass defense has been unable to stop anyone this year, so look for Bowe to have another five catches for maybe 60 yards and hopefully another score.

Start: Lee Evans, Buffalo Bills vs. St. Louis Rams. Evans has had a nice start to the season, but hasn't caught more than four passes this season and hasn't found the end zone yet. Again, I hate to beat up on the same team more than once per article, but the Rams deserve it. They haven't even shown up on defense yet. I'm expecting one of those Lee Evans eight catch, 179 yards, two score games.

Sit: Bernard Berrian, Minnesota Vikings vs. Tennessee Titans. Berrian has had three catches in each of the two games that he has played, but this week he will most likely be looking across the field at Courtland Finnegan who is quickly becoming one of the best corners that no one has heard of. With Gus Frerotte behind center, the Vikings aren't going to put up any significant passing numbers even if they were playing the Rams.

Sit: Torry Holt, St. Louis Rams vs. Buffalo Bills. Trent Green will be starting for the Rams this week, as they are putting Marc Bulger on the bench. I am running out of adjectives to describe how bad the Rams have been both offensively and defensively. Until they show some sort of life, it is hard to start any of their players. Holt is getting older, has had some leg problems lately, and has only 11 catches through three games. Hopefully you have a better option at WR.

Tight Ends

Start: Chris Cooley, Washington Redskins vs. Dallas Cowboys.
Cooley had 13 catches for almost 150 yards and a touchdown in two games against the Cowboys last year, and always seems to play well against their division rivals. He had a tough first week against the Giants, but so did his whole team. Now that Jason Campbell appears to have figured something out, Cooley should go back to being one of the top handful of tight ends in the league

Sit: Tony Scheffler, Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs.
This might sound crazy, but the Chiefs are among the league leaders in pass defense, allowing only 153 yards a game. Jay Cutler and the Broncos offense has been white hot to start the season, but the Chiefs actually have a couple of decent linebackers and safeties that could guard Scheffler. He has turned into a good tight end option, but I think he might have a tough game in Week 4.

The Guru Gridiron Report: The True Guru 6-0 in Week 3

Leagues: 6 (3 Yahoo!, 2 CBS Sportsline, 1 ESPN)

Total Record: 16-2

Wow is all I can muster. What a week three. Going into this week and looking at the schedule the best I figured I could hope for is 4-2, but I was probably looking at 3-3. Especially when Westbrook went down I really got slammed, but I still pulled it out.
I've gotten a few emails asking me how I run so many teams with conflicting players and how I'm managing to win so well. I'd like to respond to those questions here and now. I do plan to post this week about experts, but for now I'll explain my multi-league strategy. first and foremost I follow the exact advice I give in my blog and on my radio show. So far that has done very well for me. Also, when drafting these leagues I tried my best to get the players I was high on this season in as many leagues as possible. Here is a list to consider.
Players on at least 2 teams
  • Michael Turner
  • Marion Barber
  • Brian Westbrook
  • Jason Whitten
  • Tony Romo
  • Brandon Marshall
  • DeSean Jackson
  • Reggie Bush
  • Terrell Owens
  • Bears Defense
Guys on 3 teams;
  • Larry Fitzgerald (3)
  • Brett Farve (6)

Here are my 6 match ups this week:

Coast 2 Coast League

LV Cowboys 112, Sassy Raiders 87

Always a tough match up, but this time it was all LV Cowboys. Brett Farve
, Larry Fitzgerald, and Michael Turner all turned it on and I flew to an
easy victory to go to 3-0 in this league and I also have tallied the most
points.

Football Dynasty VI
LV Cowboys 375, Coming Back For More 288
This was an incredible week as I scored a league record 375 points and
demolished my fine opponent. This is the league with defensive players and
I had a ton that had great games including Cromartie, John Abraham, and Adam
Jones. ON the offensive front it was again Michael Turner with help from
Brett Farve, and Reggie Bush. This team is on fire and is sitting at 3-0
with the most points in this great keeper league.

J.A.I.L. League
The True Guru 104, Sofa King Good 93
This match up went down to the wire. I went into Monday night's
game down by 8 points with only Farve left and he came on strong and I pulled by
him. This week I started Steve Slaton and with help from Larry Fitzgerald
pulled off another close and tough win. Sofa King Good has a great team
and I'm just glad to see him and T. Houshmandzadeh gone for this season at least
until the possible playoffs.

Vegas Vs Texas League
LV Cowboys 179 - Tripods 143
This is another league that went down to the wire needing Brett Farve to pull it
out. After losing Brian Westbrook I managed to keep the game tight and
Brett Farve pulled it out in the 2nd half of Monday Night's game. Marion
Barber had another fantastic game along with Brandon Marshall and Larry
Fitzgerald. Tripods put up a helluva fight and my Texan friend who hates
the Cowboys has only beaten me (Cowboy Fan) once in 4 years, so he's probably
hanging himself right now.

NSP Experts League
FF Search 123, Nova Fantasy Sports 97

This was a fun match up as I rode to a 3-0 record in the NSP Experts League.
This victory was a team victory, but I will give shout outs to Drew Brees,
Brandon Marshall, Joseph Addai, and John Carney. Kevin Smith was my only
poor performer netting me 1 point.

Fantasy Football Search Expert League
Fantasy Football Search 91, Big Game Fantasy Sports 59

After both teams took tough losses last week, both were looking to get back on
track. Big Game Fantasy Sports is still trying for his first win and didn't find it this week. Reggie Bush & Tony Romo made sure of that with huge performances. Big Game Fantasy Sports's running attack is in peril with Fred Jackson and Sammy Morris leading the charge and only scoring 6 points. He still has a big threat with Evans, A. Johnson, and S. Holmes, but none have performed well to date and together scored only 18 points.

The Guru Gridiron Report: Expert League Week 3 Games

The Guru Gridiron Report is here and week three was full of tight games, shoot outs and blowouts. We even had some big trades go down as experts start to reorganize their teams for the season.
The expert league being hosted at http://www.fantasyfootballsearch.com/. Every week will bring you updates, scores, and analysis of what went on in that week in The 2008 Fantasy Football Search Expert League.
TRADES WEEK 3:
Fighting Chance Fantasy traded Vincent Jackson, SD WR, Brandon Jackson, GB RB, Michael Bush, Oak RB
To NFL Fantasy Playbook for Kevin Faulk, NE RB, Wes Welker, NE WR, Packers D/ST, GB D/ST.

Fantasy Football Search 91, Big Game Fantasy Sports 59
After both teams took tough losses last week, both were looking to get back on track. Big Game Fantasy Sports is stilling for its first win and didn't find it this week.

Fantasy Football Starters 129, Nooffseason.com 118
Both teams played a great game and this would be classified as a shootout. FFS came out on top with top performances from Frank Gore and his Eagles defense netting him 29 points each. Nooffseason.com had a much more balanced attack with great performances from Jay Cutler, Joseph Addai, Jeremy Shockey, and the Ravens defense.

Johnny Archive 113, Fighting Chance Fantasy 112
The tightest match up of the week came down to 1 point and Johnny Archive got it. Both teams played exceptionally well. FCF had big days from Brandon Marshall and Marion Barber. However, Johnnies team was tad more consistent throughout his roster with great games from Larry Johnson, Santana Moss, Jaguars defense, and his kicker Josh Scobee. I'd say his kicker won it for him and for FCF Ryan Grant lost it for him getting only 3 points.

Xtreme Fantasy Football 157, Scout Fantasy Football 78
This was the match up of the week and turned out to be the BLOW OUT of the week. XFF exercised little caution is dispatching Scout Fantasy Football with big plays from Roddy White, Larry Fitzgerald, Greg Jennings, the Falcons defense, and Clinton Portis. For Scout Fantasy Football, only Steven Jackson broke 14 points with 17. On paper it was a great match up, but XFF got them better end this week.

Junkyard Jake 146, Fantasy Sports Zone 111
Fantasy Sports Zone didn't know what hit him and even with a strong performance still got hammered by Junkyard Jake. JJ brought the house with a huge running attack of Matt Forte, Marshan Lynch, and Michael Turner. FSZ had good performances by Lavernues Coles, Antonio Gartes, and his Tennessee defense, but it wasn't enough. The three RBs for Junkyard Jake scored a combined 85 points.

Owners Box Sports 119, Pro Fantasy Games 91
Pro Fantasy Games is still searching for his first win after week 3. Owners Box Sports came out firing on all cylinders and never let up. Drew Brees and surprise sensation Julius Jones scored a quick 49 points on his way to victory. Even his Jets defense dropped in 20 points. This game should have been closer, but Pro Fantasy Games lost Brian Westbrook and that was a huge loss for week 3.
Mock Draft Central 127, NFL Fantasy Playbook 100
MDC earned his first win of the season and kept NFL Fantasy Playbook out of the winning column. LT showed up for MDC along with Jason Campbell and he went on to route NFLFP. Despite the loss, NFLFP did have improved performances from TJ Houshmanzadeh and LenDale White. Still, its a team that needs a boost.

There are the updates.
Week 3 Match Ups:
Fantasy Football Starters (3-0) Vs Pro Fantasy Games (0-3) - Pro Fantasy Games has just had bad luck. This is the expert league match up of the week. We smell an upset and one less undefeated expert in the league.

Fantasy Sports Zone (1-2) Vs Xtreme Fantasy Football (3-0) - Another exciting match up, but we don't see FSZ threating Xtreme Fantasy Football. XFF should remain undefeated after week 4.

Fighting Chance Fantasy (1-2) Vs. Owners Box Sports (3-0)
Great match up here. Owners Box Sports will have his hands full with FCF. This match up should go down to the wire.

Scout Fantasy Football (2-1) Vs. Mock Draft Central (1-2)
The Scout is pissed about losing and MDC is hot getting its first win. Look for this to be another tight match up between to hard fighting teams.

Junkyard Jake (2-1) Vs Johnny Archive (1-2)
Can anyone slow down Junkyard Jake? Johnny Archive has played extremely well, but he might be over matched in week 4.

Nooffseason.com (1-2) Vs Big Game Fantasy Sports (0-3)
Big Game Fantasy Sports looks to get in the winning column and has a great match up against Nooffseason.com to do it. This will be a fun game to watch.

Fantasy Football Search (2-1) Vs. NFL Fantasy Playbook (0-3)
FFS (my team) will look to dispatch my good buddy AJ quickly in week 4 and keep him out of the winning column. This is not a good match up for him, but upsets can occur.

The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 3 Review & Recap

Week three provided us with a stabilization if you could say for allot of our favorite fantasy players. Many players came down to earth while some players excelled beyond our expectations. The question for managers and experts is have we found a common ground for these players and our expectations for them. Lets review some of these weeks performances:
Quarterbacks (STOCK VALUE)
Jay Cutler - DOWN
Had a great game, but was definitely below the 3 TDs per game during the first 2 weeks. We expect more games like this the rest of the season. Of course his stock couldn't have been higher.
Tony Romo EVEN
Romo shows us he still makes mistakes, but is without a doubt the #1 fantasy QB in the league. Think about this, he has 5 TDs in 3 games. Two of his opponents (Eagles and Packers) were tough defensively.

Aaron Rodgers DOWN
Came down to earth with a 0 pass TD, 1 rush TD performance. We do expect better from him, but he was playing above his normal expectations.

Brett Farve UP
Brett Farve showed that he can in fact throw and when needed make TDs. The Jets will play from behind allot and that plays in the hands of Farve.

Drew Brees UP
Despite losing Colston and Shockey we still like Brees. With a soft defense he will throw allot and Robert Meacham may surprise us with some big games.
Donovan McNabb DOWN
We were ready for McNabb to digress. Let it began. He is still a 1st tier QB, but buyer beware.

Derek Anderson DOWN
We still have hope for Anderson, but him and Edwards need to get on track ASAP. Keep in mind He and Edwards are behind with injuries in the preseason and he has been without Stallworth and a wounded Jamal Lewis.

Peyton Manning DOWN
This is a quarterback in decline and he is no longer a 1st tier automatic start.

J.T. O'Sullivan UP
We have been waiting for him to have a breakout game and we got close. 189 yards and 2 TDs, plus 32 rushing yards shows what is to come. He is worth the grab.

Matt Schaub EVEN
Listen, the Texans have gone through so much with Ike that they have their mines elsewhere. Give them a break and assume once everything settles they will be better.

Carson Palmer UP
Carson looked comfortable against a heavy New York pass rush. We think he's found a grove and will continue to get back to where is was last year, 1st tier QB.

Trent Edwards UP
Great game with 279 yards and a TD. He has the weapons and the talent. Look for him to continue to play well all season.

Runningbacks (STOCK VALUE)

Brain Westbrook EVEN
Ok, every season Westbrook will give you 1-2 injury riddled performances. chalk this up as one and start him next week. He looks OK.

Marion Barber UP
He's a machine and the cog that makes the Dallas offense function. He is the master of the 1-yard TD run and will continue to score 1-2 TDs per game. He's at the very least the overall #2 RB in fantasy.

Steve Slaton UP
Finally got his start and looked awesome. 100+ yards and a TD. Once the Texan offense gets going, he wil be hard to contain. Get him now.

Kevin Smith DOWN
Got benched in favor of Rudi Johnson. He is a rookie, so have patience, but this is not good no matter how you look at it.

Rudi Johnson UP
RUDI! RUDI! He's back and 84 yards on 14 carries looked good to us. He's the starter in Detroit now, but don't expect too much.

Reggie Bush UP
Watch out, he's looking like the player we've all been waiting for. 4 TDs so far and over 400 combined yards with 26 receptions. Believe it.

Matt Forte UP
This rookie is amazing everyone and propelling the Chicago Bears to a playoff caliber team. Over 400 yards and 2 TDs in a weak offense looks great. He added 7 receptions in week 3.

Larry Johnson UP
Finally a performance worth discussing. Let's see him do it 2 times in a row. At least the Chiefs can say when LJ gets 100+ yards they are 1-0.

Michael Turner UP
We expected great things out of him and got them. Still a very inconsistent runningback in an inconsistent offense, but a must start.

Wide Reciever (STOCK VALUE)

Ike Hillard EVEN
He seems to just catch TDs every other game. He's turning into a great 3rd WR for your fantasy team.

Terrell Owens EVEN
He will have bad games, but they won't happen back-to-back weeks. He's still in the top 3.

Miles Austin UP
He's the 3rd WR for the Cowboys, but had a huge game with 115 yards and a touchdown. Take a flyer on this guy as Crayton could be losing favor in Dallas.

Eddie Royal EVEN
Didn't have his best game, but is still "The Other Guy" in Denver and should get plenty of scraps.

Robert Meacham UP
With Colston and Shockey out look for Meacham to continue to get more involved. He caught 2 passes for 86 yards and is a constant deep threat for New Orleans.

Chansi Stuckey UP
Three games, 3 touchdowns. Farve has a goto guy forming in the red zone. Get him now.

Plaxico Buress EVEN
Had a tough game, but still one of the best at getting balls that cornerbacks cannot.
Andre Johnson DOWN
Again, the Texans are is disarray, but Johnson dropped two TD passes, so he's downgraded. We still expect him to explode no matter who throws to him.
Torry Holt DOWN
He is on the decline and I would run away if you have him.

Randy Moss DOWN
He's no longer the threat he was without Brady. Pull the string and deal him ASAP.

DeSean Jackson EVEN
Had an alright, but uneventful game against a brutal defense. We expect more out of him in the coming weeks.

Hank Basket UP
This is a guy we liked even last year. 8 catches for 85 yards showed that McNabb likes to target him. Even with Curtis and Brown coming back expect Basket to stay in the equation for the Eagle offense.

Tight Ends (STOCK VALUE)
Jeremy Shockey DOWN
He's out for 6 weeks and that stinks for his owners. He was getting better.
Vernon Davis DOWN
With all the passes O'Sullivan is throwing you'd think Davis would catch more, but so far he has been absent from the offense.
Robert Royal DOWN
After the first good game, nothing much. Still take a flyer on him, but beware.
Dante Rosario DOWN
With Steve Smith back Rosario is a one hit wonder.

Antonio Gates UP
The toe is no longer an issue. Another TD catch and another great game. He is back.
Kellen Winslow DOWN

He isn't performing like we thought he would, but be patient. We think Cleveland will right the ship and Winslow will get touchdowns.

Jason Witten UP
Still no end zone, but 20 catches in three games and 7 each over the last two. His time will come.

Fighting Chance Fantasy's Week 3 Recap

Miami Dolphins 38, New England Patriots 13

Holy @#%$^#!!!!!! Who saw this one coming???? Ronnie Brown was the story in this game as he ran for four touchdowns and actually threw for another. There were multiple plays that Brown lined up as the QB and either ran the ball or threw it, including the score to Anthony Fasano. Brown ran for 113 yards on 17 carries, and will certainly be the offensive player of the week. Chad Pennington had a great percentage as he completed 17/20 for 226 yards with no scores or picks. Ricky Williams also had a good game running for 98 yards on 16 carries. Ted Ginn Jr. led all receivers with five catches for 49 yards, but is still disappointing so far this year. Defensively, Yeremiah Bell led the Dolphins with seven solo carries and three assisted, and Joey Porter had three sacks as he shockingly backed up all the trash talking he was doing. But like someone said to me, if you run your mouth everyday, eventually one of them will come through. Matt Cassel was 19/35 for 131 yards, a touchdown and a pick, but he was running for his life most of the game. Questions are starting to arise about his ability to run this offense. The rushing attack was pretty much nonexistent, as Sammy Morris led with 27 yards. Wes Welker and Jabar Gaffney each caught six passes, and Randy Moss struggled again with just four catches and 25 yards. Rookie Jerod Mayo led the team with eight solo tackles.

Atlanta Falcons 38, Kansas City Chiefs 14

Did the Chargers keep the wrong running back when they let Michael Turner go and kept LaDanian Tomlinson? Ok, that might be stretching it a little, but Turner had another sensational game as he had his second multi-touchdown game in just the third week. “The Burner” ran for 104 yards and yards and a touchdown. I still think he will fall far short of his glory years, but this was a good sign for his owners. Tyler Thigpen was predictably horrible throwing three interceptions. Tony Gonzalez and Dwayne Bowe both had four catches and Bowe caught the only score of the game. Rookie Matt Ryan was efficient again as he threw for 192 yards and completed two-thirds of his passes. Last year’s breakout Roddy White had 119 yards on five catches including a 70 yard touchdown. On defense John Abraham had two more sacks, bringing his season total to six. Lawyer Milloy and Keith Brooking both had seven solo tackles. For Kansas City, Larry Johnson finally showed a sign of life after complaining last week about his role in the offense. Johnson got 24 carries for 121 will suffer given their tough quarterback situation.

Buffalo Bills 24, Oakland Raiders 23

Marshawn Lynch is a stud, plain and simple. I would think about trying to make a move to acquire him if the price isn’t too high. Lynch had 83 yards on the ground with two touchdowns, and also caught four balls for 31 yards. He will certainly be a top six or seven back by the end of the year. Trent Edwards was good enough again today, going 24/39 for 279 yards and a touchdown and a pick. Josh Reed had a decent game with six catches for 72 yards and Lee Evans caught four for 65. Roscoe Parrish continued to be a solid return man and even caught a touchdown pass. In larger leagues, he might be worth owning. Paul Posluszny and Donte Whitner starred on defense. The Raiders I’m sure felt a kick in the gut as Rian Lindell’s kick went through the uprights to win the game. Points-wise JaMarcus Russell was good throwing for one touchdown and running for another. But he was just 9/19 and only 156, not to mention that 86 went on one pass to Johnny Lee Higgins. Michael Bush and Darren McFadden each carried the ball 14 times, with little success (Bush 55 yards, McFadden 42 yards). A far cry from the breakout game last week for McFadden, who also led the team with a measley three receptions. Their offense is horrible and I would try to stay away from if possible. Kirk Morrison led the defense with nine tackles, while Gibril Wilson had six.

New York Giants 26, Cincinnati Bengals 23 (OT)

Well, it was finally nice to see the Bengals offense show up. Carson Palmer threw his first touchdown of the year, even though he was sacked six times. Palmer was 27/39 for 286 yards, and finally looked like the quarterback we expected him to be when the season started. Chris Perry looked pretty good on the ground, running for 74 yards and a score, and tacking on two catches for 19 yards as he continues to have a stranglehold on the starting running back’s job in Cincinnati. T.J. Houshmandzadeh led the team with 12 catches for 146 yards and a touchdown, as he continues to outshine Chad Johnson who had only three catches for 29 yards. Johnson gets all the attention and the headlines because he talks too much, but the Housh is the best receiver on this team. Eli Manning was cool as a cucumber again as he led the game winning drive in overtime. Manning was 26/43 for 289 yards as he has solidified himself as a solid fantasy quarterback this season. He has a quiet confidence about him, and as he led his team to a go ahead drive near the end of regulation I knew he would put the Giants in front. Brandon Jacobs had a touchdown, but he only gained 35 yards on 12 carries. Derrick Ward was the rushing star this week with 80 yards on only 9 carries. Second year breakout candidate Steve Smith led the team with seven catches for 60 yards. Kevin Boss caught the go ahead touchdown to cap his game of 3 catches for 51 yards, and Amani Toomer had five catches, including the one that set up the winning field goal. Antonio Pierce led the defense with nine solo tackles.

Tennessee Titans 31, Houston Texans 12

Kerry Collins is managing games, but isn’t really a fantasy option. Collins was 14/26 for 189 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Justin McCareins caught for balls for 90 yards, but the Titans pass attack is something that I would try to stay away from. Both running backs had 16 carries, rookie Chris Johnson getting 74 yards, while LenDale White had only 49 yards, but had two short touchdowns while Johnson didn’t score. On defense, breakout corner Courtland Finnegan took a pass back 99 yards for a touchdown, while Albert Haynesworth, Jevon Kearse, and Kurt Vanden Bosch had sacks. For Houston, Matt Schaub struggled mightily, completing less than 50 percent of his passes and threw three interceptions. Owen Daniels had a good receiving game at tight end with four catches four 71 yards, but the story of the game was rookie Steve Slaton. While oft-injured Ahman Green has been unable to play, the rookie from West Virginia took advantage. Slaton led with a game breaking 50 yard run on his way to 116 yards and a score. If you have any dead weight on your team, definitely consider Slaton. On defense, DeMeco Ryans continues to be a stud with 10 solo and 3 assisted tackles.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27, Chicago Bears 24 (OT)

Brian Griese threw the ball (and this is not a misprint) 67 times! He had 407 yards and two scores and three picks. I don’t think he is a great option for next week, as I don’t see the Bucs throwing that much again. If you throw 67 times, you are bound to have good stats. The running game stunk, as Earnest Graham had only 16 yards on 12 carries, while Warrick Dunn had 31 yards on just five carries. Antonio Bryant had the best game that he had in quite a long time as he grabbed ten balls for 138 yards. Barret Ruud, Cato June, and Chris Hovan all had six solo tackles. Rookie Matt Forte continues to impress and be the best rookie runner. Forte ran for 87 yards and caught seven balls for 66 yards and a touchdown. He will continue to play well all season long. Kyle Orton had a great game for him as he threw 22/34 for 268 and two scores, including six for 124 for Brandon Lloyd. On defense, Charles Tillman had nine solo tackles.

Washington Redskins 24, Arizona Cardinals 17

After looking horrible on that opening Thursday night game against the Giants, the Redskins have beaten two trendy picks before the season started in New Orleans and now Arizona. Jason Campbell looks like he has a much better grasp on this new offense, as he threw for another 193 yards and two scores by completing nearly three quarters of his passes. Clinton Portis continued his strong season with 68 yards and a touchdown. Chris Cooley broke out of his season long slump with seven catches which led the team along with Santana Moss. Fantasy-wise, Kurt Warner had a pretty decent start. He threw for under 200 yards, but he did throw two more touchdows, one to Anquan Boldin and the other to Larry Fitzgerald who had seven catches for 109 yards. Edgerrin James nearly broke 100 yards on just 18 carries, which is a great average for him at this point of his career. On defense, Karlos Dansby had six solo tackles and a sack as he continues his strong start.

Minnesota Vikings 20, Carolina Panthers 10

The Panthers were doing good, and the Vikings benched their quarterback, and their starting running back was a game-time decision. Easy win for the Panthers, right? WRONG! Gus Frerote, now the starting quarterback, will just be asked to manage the game, making him a very questionable fantasy option. He did throw for 204 yards and a touchdown, but unless all the other quarterbacks are taken, I would not use Frerote. Adrian Peterson did end up playing, although he didn’t have his usual explosiveness. He had a pretty decent game, with 77 yards on 17 carries. Bernard Berrian had a good yardage game with 79 yards on three catches. He could be a nice addition to your team now that Tarvaris Jackson isn’t behind center. Defensively, Kevin Williams had two sacks, Chad Greenway had one sack, and superstar E.J. Henderson had 11 solo tackles. Jake Delhomme continues to be disappointing, as he threw for under 200 yards and failed to throw a touchdown. Steve Smith came back from his team suspension to catch 4 passes for 70 yards. Look for his numbers to gradually increase. The running back committee predictably struggled against the strong Viking defense. DeAngelo Williams had ten carries for 27 yards, while Johnathan Stewart followed up his breakout game with just seven carries for 15 yards, however, he did have the only touchdown for the Panthers.

Denver Broncos 34, New Orleans Saints 32

Jay Cutler continued to show the NFL that he has arrived, as he threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns. He is leading the NFL in pretty much all statistical categories. Brandon Marshall had another studly game with six catches for 155 yards and a touchdown. Marshall will prove to be one of the top five wide receivers in football at season’s end. Selvin Young had 11 carries for 65 yards to get the most touches of all the running backs, but it was Michael Pittman who found pay dirt again even though he had just two yards on five carries. Pittman seems to be getting the carries at the goal line. Reggie Bush continued his strong start as the Saints are now using him more for his strengths, which is out in open space. Bush rushed for 73 yards and also caught 11 more passes and a touchdown. Drew Brees completed 38 passes for 421 yards and only one touchdown. After losing Marques Colston, Brees had to find new targets including Jeremy Shockey for 8 catches, Lance Moore for 7, and Robert Meachem caught a touchdown for the second consecutive week. Now Jeremy Shockey will miss three to six weeks with a sports hernia, causing more concern for the Saints’ offense.

San Francisco 49ers 31, Detroit Lions 13

The Lions offense struggled pretty badly all day long with the exception of newly acquired Rudi Johnson. Johnson carried the ball 14 times (to rookie Kevin Smith’s 3) for 83 yards. He also caught three passes for 48 yards and a touchdown. It appears after this game that the Lions will lean on Rudi in the running game. Jon Kitna didn’t even reach 150 yards passing and left the game late. Calvin Johnson led the team with a pathetic 4 catches for 40 yards. Defensively, Ernie Sims paced the team with 11 solo tackles. Is J.T. O’Sullivan now a viable fantasy quarterback. Although I don’t think he all of a sudden found a ton of talent, I think he is a good fit for this system. For bye week or injury replacement, O’Sullivan is looking like he will be worth owning. A week after throwing for over 300 yards, J.T. didn’t reach 200, but he did throw for two scores. The Martz system spreads the ball around a lot, so no one caught more than four passes. That someone was Frank Gore who is having a great season and thriving under Mike Martz. Gore rushed for 130 yards on 27 carries and found the endzone as well. Add in those four catches as well, and Gore is playing like an elite running back. I’m still not sure I am sold on the 49ers being a viable offensive team, but so far, so good.

Seattle Seahawks 37, St. Louis Rams 13

Boy, it might be time to start writing that obituary on the Rams. They have been absolutely putrid this season, and none of their usual explosive offensive options are performing. Steven Jackson ran for only 66 yards, but was able to catch five passes for 62 yards. His value is still there in PPR leagues, but he needs to start finding the endzone. Marc Bulger threw for only 184 yards and one touchdown as he struggled again on Sunday. His struggles have also trickled down to the receivers, including Torry Holt who only caught four balls. Defensively, Will Witherspoon had seven solo tackles and a sack. Even with his receiving corps being in shambles, Matt Hasselbeck was ok given the circumstances. He didn’t reach 200 yards and had only one score, but he gets a pass given the rash of injuries in Seattle. Julius Jones carried the offense again with 140 yards and a touchdown, and T.J. Duckett finally decided to show up, and scored twice and ran for 79 yards on 19 carries.

Philadelphia Eagles 15, Pittsburgh Steelers 6

This was a defensive struggle, but there were a few notable players. Donovan McNabb was very efficient again. Although he didn’t throw for 200 yards, McNabb still completed almost 70 percent of his passes and threw another touchdown. It looks like if McNabb can stay healthy, he is going to have one of the better seasons of his career. Brian Westbrook was bottled up as he only had 12 yards rushing. The worst news is that he left the game in the second quarter with an injury suffered when he tried not to step on one of his teammates that was on the ground. The MRI came back negative and he is day-to-day. If he will be unable to go, Correl Buckhalter will start in his place. Buckhalter, who has always battled injury, ran for 43 yards on just ten carries and caught six balls including a touchdown. If Westbrook will miss next Sunday, Buckhalter will be a strong pickup. Hank Baskett had eight catches, and rookie sensation DeSean Jackson had five catches for 40 yards. After two great games, Willie Parker was completely shut down with only 20 yards on 13 carries. It was just one bad game against a very strong defense. Ben Roethlisberger was sacked eight times and left the game late with a finger injury. X-rays were negative, so he should be ok to start next week. Big Ben did not throw a touchdown and only threw for 131 yards. Nate Washington led the team with five catches, and tight end Heath Miller caught four.

Baltimore Ravens 28, Cleveland Browns 10

Is Derek Anderson about to lose his starting job? Anderson struggled again, completing less than 40 percent of his passes and threw three more interceptions. Word on the street is that Brady Quinn has not been named the starter, but he is in line to get more reps with the first team in practice this week, meaning Anderson could be on a short leash this week. The entire Browns’ offense is in shambles compared to last season. Jamal Lewis failed to rush for 60 yards, Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow combined to make five catches for 41 yards. It is hard to start any of these players right now, but with their talent, it is tough to sit them too. Rookie Joe Flacco just manages the game. He threw only 19 times, and for only 129 yards and two interceptions. The Ravens lean on their running game and their defense. Ed Reed took one of those picks back for a touchdown and Terrell Suggs had two sacks. Willis McGahee returned from injury and had 64 yards and a touchdown, and “fullback” Le’Ron McClain had more carries, more yards, and had two touchdowns. The “main” running back is still a mystery, but right now everyone who has been running the ball for Baltimore has been successful.

Jacksonville Jaguars 23, Indianapolis Colts 21

Are the Colts really 1-2, with two losses at home? We all knew Peyton Manning might not be 100% coming into the season, but three touchdowns and four picks through three games? This is shocking. Manning threw for just 216 yards and just completed over 50% of his passes. Marvin Harrison led the team with only four catches, but he did have a touchdown. Dallas Clark returned from missing a game and also caught four passes. Stud receiver Reggie Wayne did have 74 yards, but only three grabs. On a positive note for the Colts, Joseph Addai had his best game of the season as he rushed for 78 yards and even better scored twice. I don’t think it is a coincidence that the return of center Jeff Saturday came on the same week that Addai did well. Linebacker Clint Session continued his strong season with nine solo tackles, giving him 20 through three games. The Jags’ win games on the ground, plain and simple. The tandem of Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew ran threw the Colts’ defense all day long. Taylor led the team with 121 yards, but it was Jones-Drew who was the go-to guy around the end zone. The little firecracker rushed for 107 yards, caught four passes for 59 yards, and even returned a kick for 25 more yards. Even though Taylor still has some value, Drew is certainly having the bigger role. David Garrard is the prototype of a pretty good REAL quarterback, but a pretty bad FANTASY quarterback. Garrard threw for only 167 yards and still only has one touchdown pass through three games. The Jags’ offense just doesn’t ask him to do enough to warrant him being anything more than a bye week replacement. Matt Jones continues to have his best season as he hauled in four more passes, bringing his season total to 15. He is certainly someone who could bring you a little help if you had injuries, like to Marques Colston, or bye weeks. He won’t bring you similar production, but at least he is playing consistently. Defensively, Rashean Mathis returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdown.

Dallas Cowboys 27, Green Bay Packers 16

Tony Romo continues to impress the heck out of me. He has quickly gone from anonymous guy to dating Jessica Simpson and leading the Dallas Cowboys to impressive wins. Romo threw for 260 yards and just one touchdown, but the way that he operates keeps the defense on their toes. He is able to make every throw, meaning you never know where he is going to go with the ball. TE Jason Witten had his best game with seven catches, and Miles Austin popped up on some radar screens after catching two passes for 115 yards and a touchdown, while Terrell Owens had just two catches. The offense also has two impressive running backs leading the way. Marion Barber is turning into one of the better backs in the league, and he racked up another 142 yards on the ground and another touchdown. Rookie Felix Jones continues to impress with a 50 yard run on his way to a 76 yard total on just six carries. Adam Jones had six solo tackles as well as a fumble recovery he nearly returned for a touchdown to lead the Cowboy defense.

San Diego Chargers 48, New York Jets 29

Another offensive show on Monday night, and Philip Rivers is looking like one of the better quarterbacks in football. Rivers was 19/25 for 250 yards and three touchdowns. He has now thrown three touchdowns in each of the first three games of the season. No one had more than four catches, and the touchdowns went to Mike Tolbert, Chris Chambers, and Antonio Gates. Vincent Jackson had a nice game with three catches for 71 yards. LaDanian Tomlinson gave it a go this week, and ran well. I was worried going into the game that it hadn’t seemed like Tomlinson was in any hurry to return from his injured toe. But he looked good and ran for 67 yards and two touchdowns, and on the second one he really pushed a pile into the endzone which was impressive given his injury. LT also caught three balls for his best game of the young NFL season. Backup Darren Sproles had 116 all purpose yards. Last season’s interception leader Antonio Cromartie had two interceptions on Monday, one of which he brought back for a touchdown. AC also had seven solo tackles. Brett Favre’s stats will look good, but he was forcing a lot once the Jets got behind. Favre was finally allowed to throw the ball for coach Eric Mangini, as he was 30/42 for 271 yards, three touchdowns and the two picks by Cromartie. Jerricho Cotchery led the team with 10 catches as he continues to thrive with Favre. Tight end Dustin Keller caught four balls including his first NFL touchdown. Laverneous Coles also caught his first Favre score, and rookie Chansi Stuckey caught a touchdown pass for the third consecutive game while hauling in six passes. On defense, David Barrett brought back a Rivers’ pass for a touchdown early, and David Harris paced the team with nine solo tackles.

NFL Touchdown Sunday Quick Hits - Week 3

Miami Dolphins 38, New England Patriots 13
Great – with the Patriots having a bye in Week 4, we now have 14 days of listening to mindless chatter about whether this team is in trouble, whether Bill Belichick needs Tom Brady in order to win, whether this will turn out to be a lost year for New England, yada yada yada.

New England’s defense looked awful on all fronts. The linebackers were slow. Every time after Rodney Harrison took a bad angle to the ball, he outdid himself by somehow taking an even worse angle on the next play. The rest of the secondary was atrocious as well. Brandon Meriweather played as if being out of position was in style, and the way Deltha O’Neal tackled, you’d have sworn it was Deion Sanders himself inside that No. 21 jersey.

The Dolphins utilized the Ronnie Brown direct snap a handful of times and produced a handful of big plays. Did you ever think we’d see New England get repeatedly sucker punched by the same trick play again and again?

Bad news Pats fans: Randy Moss hasn’t been playing as hard this year.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27, Chicago Bears 24
The football purist in me shudders when hearing that Brian Griese attempted 67 passes on Sunday. But given the way the Bears stopped the run their first two games, the aerial strategy – excessive as it was – made sense. And, of course, it worked.

Charles Tillman will be censured all week for the boneheaded personal foul penalty that he picked up in overtime (a penalty that negated a would-be fourth down and allowed Tampa Bay’s game-winning to continue). But that was a situation where a bunch of guys were fighting and Tillman happened to be the one who stood out the most. Jeremy Trueblood could have very well been the bonehead on that play had the ref only seen him.

Matt Forte had only modest rushing numbers against a formidable Bucs defense, but he did get far more involved in the passing attack. Yes, Barrett Ruud was able to make a spectacular interception on one of the passes that went Forte’s way, but if I’m a Bears fan, I’m pleased overall with what the rookie showed lining up as a receiver.

Of course, if I’m a Bears fan, I’m not encouraged that my team has blown double digits leads late in the fourth quarter two weeks in a row.

Who says character counts? Professional cry baby Antonio Bryant caught 10 passes for 138 yards for the Bucs. And first-rate jackass Jeremy Stevens – forever a first-round bust – had five receptions for 61 yards and a score.

By the way, Stevens should be suspended a game for his obscene touchdown celebration. If you didn’t see it, it was basically him pointing to the one part of his body that best describes what he is.

Atlanta Falcons 38, Kansas City Chiefs 14
Credit the Falcons for this: they’re at least taking advantage of their opportunity to beat up on weaker opponents.

How bad is Kansas City’s run defense? Sunday, the Chiefs gave up 186 yards on the ground and improved their rush yards per game allowed.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Herm Edwards loses this team soon. Any Chiefs player who looks to the field and sees Tyler Thigpen out there knows his head coach is not going with the guy who gives them the best chance to win.

How about Roddy White’s touchdown celebration? No matter how many you’ve seen, a standstill back flip always a) surprises you and b) impresses you.

John Abraham has a league-leading six sacks this season. Whatdaya think, does he get to 10 before his first hamstring pull of ’08?

The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 3 Bench/Start Defenses

Week 3 is a pivotal week and one that is more important then most think. At this point you are either 2-0, 0-2, or 1-1. If you are 2-0 that's great, but a lost would heavily tarnish the record at this point, so perfection is the only option in your eyes. If you are 0-2 you cannot fall to 0-3 as its very hard to claim out from under and 1-2 is still very salvageable for the season. If you are 1-1 this could will be the first defining moment of the season. Do you take a step forward to 2-1 or go backwards and fall below .500.

Now we may be over exaggerating albeit, but the bottom line is its a good week to win and we will help you with our weekly selections using the our patented True Guru Equation (The variable definitions are the secret):

DEFENSES AND YOU MUST START
Its a risk, but we think Arizona matches up well with Washington, so start them. On the flip side we also like Washington against Warner, so give them a chance. The NY Giants are a must start and will go nuts on Carson Palmer. If Minnesota plans to be the fantasy defense we all expected, this is the week. At home against Carolina. With Garrard struggling, the Indianapolis Colts should find some points at home. Seattle hasn't looked good this year, but if the Rams still haven't figured out football this could be a huge week for them.

Others: Chicago, New England, Tampa Bay, Buffalo

Other DEFENSES To Consider Starting With Some Risk
Not much here to discuss. Tennessee will have its hands full with the Texans, but should put up some solid points.
Others: Philadelphia, Houston, Pittsburgh

Please Bench These DEFENSES

Cincinnati, Green Bay, San Diego, NY Jets, Denver, New Orleans, Oakland, Baltimore, Detroit, San Francisco

Sleeper WIDE RECEIVERS
We have a few sleeper defenses we like;
  1. Dallas
  2. Carolina
  3. Atlanta
  4. Cleveland

Good luck.

The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 3 Bench/Start WRs and TEs

WIDE RECEIVERS AND YOU MUST START
Wide Receivers are taking over the league at this point. We like several this week including Roddy White. This is a game for him to breakout in. Steve Smith is back and ready for action and he should be dominant this week against Minnesota. Another WR we like is Justin Gage against Houston. With Collins throwing to him he can easily get 1 TD nearly every week as long as Collins can stay off his back. Despite the match up we like Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. You just have to start them. Finally, we love Wes Welker this week. He should get a ton of pass targets against his old team Miami. Braylon Edwards will catch a Touchdown this week. Just watch and start him with confidence. Finally, we like DeSean Jackson this week against Pittsburgh. He wants to make amends for his mistake last week and over matches Pitts defense.
Others: Andre Johnson, Eddit Royal, Brandon Marshall, Plaxico Buress, Calvin Johnson, Jerricho Cotchery, Terrell Owens, Greg Jennings

WIDE RECEIVERS AND TIGHT ENDS YOU MUST START

Jason Witten, Antonio Gates, John Carlson, LJ Smith

Other WIDE RECEIVERS To Consider Starting With Some Risk
We like Randy Moss this week, but he carries some risk with the "Cassel" factor. Can Cassel get him the long ball? This is a match up for Moss to exploit. We also think Dwayne Bowe can fine the end zone with whomever is throwing to him. Even though Palmer will be running for his life most of the game, Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh should catch some passes. We see T.J. finding then end zone, but we aren't sure for Chad Johnson. This is a must win for Cincinnati, so they will be pulling out everything. Joey Galloway is another WR we like this week. He matches up well against the Chicago Bears secondary, so start him. If you need a 1 week start, go with Amani Toomer. He should catch a TD and about 100 yards.
Others: Benard Berrian, DJ Hacket, Lee Evans, Brandon Lloyd. Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, Reggie Williams (Check injury status), Roy Williams, Santonio Holmes, Patrick Crayton, Donald Driver, Torry Holt, Keary Colbert

Other TIGHT ENDS To Consider Starting With Some Risk

Dante Rosario, Bo Scaife, Jeremy Shockey, Robert Royal, Vernon Davis, Chris Colley

Please Bench These WIDE RECEIVERS
This is the part everyone hates, benching your guys. Sidney Rice you have to bench. Frerotte will look for Berrian most of the day, not Rice. Ike Hillard won't do much against the Bears so sit him. We cannot reccomend starting Koran Robinson until we see him play.

Others: Kevin Walters, Antwaan Randle El, Marvin Harrison, Jerry Porter, Greg Lewis, Jason Avant, Hines Ward, Lavernues Coles

Please Bench These TIGHT ENDS

Alge Crumpler, Merecedes Lewis, Bubba Franks, Donald Lee.

Sleeper WIDE RECEIVERS
We have a few sleepers we like this week. First we like Derrick Mason against Cleveland. Baltimore could fall behind quickly and will go to the air. Ronald Curry is another. We think he's good to catch one bomb from Russell, but not much more. We also like the chemistry forming between Chansi Stuckey and Brett Farve. Start him. A couple of more sleepers, Josh Morgan (49ers) and Donnie Avery of the Rams.

Good luck. Next are our Defenses!

Fighting Chance Fantasy's Start/Sit Week 3

Everyone knows to start Peyton Manning, Adrian Peterson, and Larry Fitzgerald, but who can really help your fantasy team this coming week? Here they are:

Quarterbacks

Start: Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers vs. New York Jets. Rivers has been hitting on all cylinders through the first two games, as he has thrown six touchdowns already. And with the injury concerns with LaDainian Tomlinson, the Chargers offense will be forced to rely even more so on Rivers and the passing game. The Jets have a strong secondary with Darrelle Revis, Kerry Rhodes, and rookie Dwight Lowery, but they did allow noodle-armed Chad Pennington to throw for 250 yards, so they are still a work in progress. Look for Rivers to top 250 yards and throw two scores.

Start: Kurt Warner, Arizona Cardinals vs. Washington Redskins. After a 361 yard, three touchdown game against the Dolphins, how can you not be excited to start Warner again this week against the ‘Skins? When he is healthy, Warner is still an assassin and he has the tools to pick apart a defense, or hit the home run with one play. Even with his contract concerns, Anquan Boldin isn’t allowing it to effect his play, and Larry Fitzgerald is one of the best. Look for the Cardinals QB to approach 300 yards again, with another two to three touchdowns.

Sit: Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle Seahawks vs. St. Louis Rams.
The ‘Walking Wounded’ known as the Seattle Seahawks’ receiving corps. Given the laundry list of injuries the Seahawks have turned to Koren Robinson and Keary Colbert to try to help them out. But realistically, they don’t have an established receiver in the bunch, so it will be tough for poor Hasselbeck to have a good game. He will most likely find someone in the end zone at some point, but I can’t see him getting much more than 175-200 yards.

Sit: Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Philadelphia Eagles. Given the injury concern of his shoulder, Roethlisberger is a risky play this week. I’m pretty sure that he will play, but it was obvious in their last game that he was in pain. I don’t see it being cured in one week’s rest, so Big Ben is an injury risk play for Week 3.

Running Backs

Start: Marshawn Lynch, Buffalo Bills vs. Oakland Raiders.
Lynch has been consistently average so far this year, but he has scored in both games he has played. The Raiders’ defense has showed to be incredibly porous this season, and I fully expect Marshawn to have his first 100 yard game and another touchdown.

Start: Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers vs. Detroit Lions. The Lions have shown little resistance against opposing offenses in either game they have played this season, so I believe that the semi-pro Niners offense will have a solid game again this week. Frank has had a solid start to the season, running with a purpose and finishing his runs. Look for Gore to have a 100 yard game and two scores.

Sit: Johnathan Stewart, Carolina Panthers, vs. Minnesota Vikings. Stewart served noticed to the NFL last week that he had arrived with a two score game against the Bears. However, this week he goes against one of the better run defenses with the Vikings. He is still sharing carries with DeAngelo Williams, so I don’t see him as a strong play in Week 3.

Sit: Jamal Lewis, Cleveland Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens. The Browns is definitely not as explosive as it was in 2007 and Jamal Lewis won’t have the same 1,300 yard season he did last season. The Ravens defense is still solid even though it isn’t what it was in their Super Bowl season many years ago. Don’t look for Lewis to have any more than 75 yards and I don’t think he will cross paydirt this week.

Wide Receivers

Start: Eddie Royal, Denver Broncos vs. New Orleans Saints.
Even with the sparkling 18 catch return of Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal continued to have a fantasy impact. Now this week he goes against a New Orleans defense who allowed a very average Jason Campbell to throw for over 300 yards. Expect stud-in-training Jay Cutler to have a similar big game against the Saints, and Eddie Royal to approach 90 yards and a score.

Start: Bryant Johnson, San Francisco 49ers vs. Detroit Lions. The 49ers offense showed last week that they have a chance to be a decent offense, and Bryant Johnson showed some signs of being the number one receiver the Niners would hope he was going to be when they acquired him. I can’t say that I am confident that J.T. O’Sullivan turned the corner and will be a reliable quarterback for them, but he did throw for over 300 yards last week, and ALL of the trouble that the 49ers offense has had the past few seasons (The Alex Smith era), have all come from incompetence at the QB position. If they have a stable guy now, perhaps some of their wideouts will be worth something.

Sit: T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Cincinnati Bengals vs. NY Giants. I am officially worried about the Cincinnati offense. I have no explanation why this collection of talent can’t get the ball down the field at all, nevermind in the endzone. After leading the NFL in catches last season, Housh has just six catches through the first two games. This probably means that they are due for an explosion, but the Giants defense is pretty stout, so I don’t think it is coming this week.

Sit: Roy Williams, Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers. Williams hasn’t been off to a great start (six catches through two games), and this week he will draw a tough matchup against one of the best corners in football, Nate Clements. Williams will have a few inches of height on Clements, but Nate is a tough cover guy and will most likely keep Roy in check. Look for four catches for about 50 yards and no touchdowns.

Tight Ends

Start: John Carlson, Seattle Seahawks vs. St. Louis Rams. Not to keep pounding on one point, but the state of the Seattle passing game is definitely in shambles. But I did watch much of last week’s game against the 49ers and one thing was clear, Matt Hasselbeck was comfortable throwing the ball to John Carlson. Now, I’m not saying he is a Pro Bowler, but at 6′5″ and 251 pounds he is a good target, especially in the red zone. Look for Carlson to catch six or seven passes and more than likely find the end zone against a Rams team that has been more Swiss Cheese than Super Stingy.

Sit: Randy McMichael, St. Louis Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks. The Rams have been borderline on embarrassing for the first two weeks, and Marc Bulger in particular hasn’t been good. The Rams offense has only produced one touchdown so far, so starting McMichael is a risky proposition. The Seahawks have some great linebackers and safeties which will probably be assigned to cover McMichael, so I am looking at only three catches for 45 yards and still no touchdowns.

The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 3 Bench/Start Runningbacks

RUNNINGBACKS YOU MUST START
Week 3 has a ton of great runningbacks to start. We love Michael Turner this week against the sad KC defense. We also think that Marshan Lynch is an absolute must start as he should have no problems running on the Raiders run defense. Brandon Jacobs is emerging as a dominating RB and with solid RBs like Ward and Bradshaw to spell him he is staying healthy. Jacobs is a must start this week.

This is a rare time when we will say this as we are not fans of Clinton Portis, but START HIM. Finally, we may pay for this dearly, but we like the match up for Laurence Maroney. He should punish the Dolphins, but keep an eye out on LaMont Jordan. If Laurence Maroney's shoulder injury acts up, Jordan could be a steal.
Others: Adrian Peterson, Reggie Bush, Frank Gore, Joseph Addai, Brain Westbrook, Marion Barber.

Other RUNNINGBACKS To Consider Starting With Some Risk
There are several runningbacks that carry a heavy risk this week, but also carry a heavy reward. You would think that Larry Johnson would be a great start against Atlanta, but we thought that as well last week. You have to start him and we think that Kansas City will focus their sagging offense on the running game and give him allot more touches. We were high on Chris Johnson last week and we like him this week at home against Houston. Another surprise last week was Julius Jones. He was left for dead by most experts and managers, but last week proved he has it. He should find lots of room against the Rams. Thomas Jones should be active often and early against the Chargers and with Detroit shopping for another running back expect Kevin Smith to have a big game against San Francisco. Finally we are concerned the turf toe injury to LaDainian Tomlinson, so we recommend you watch his status for the game. If for some crazy reason he doesn't play get Darren Sproles or Jacob Hester as they will certainly split carries.
Others: Chris Perry, Stephen Jackson, Maurice Jones-Drew, Ryan Grant, Ernest Graham, Darren McFadden (watch injury status).

Please Bench These RUNNINGBACKS
We only have a few must bench runningbacks. Start with Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams. Nobody runs on Minnesota, so neither are worth a start this week. The same goes for Matt Forte against a tough Tampa Bay defense. Finally, bench Jamal Lewis. he is hurting with a soft hamstring and isn't 100%. He doesn't match up well against Baltimore's defense. In his last two games he's averaged 75 yards and a touchdown, however he is on the road and hurt.

Others: LenDale White, Edgerrin James, Ricky Williams.

Sleeper RUNNINGBACKS
We have a few sleepers we like this week. First we'll start with Ronnie Brown. He's getting healthier by the day and is stealing more carries from Ricky Williams. We expect him to have a nice game against New England. We already mentioned Sproles. Regardless of LT's health he will get 7-8 carries plus he returns. Steve Slaton will get the start against a tough Tennessee defense and we like this match up against a defense that will focus on the pass. Finally, we like Michael Bush. With McFadden limping look for Bush to get 10-14 carries and make the most of it.

Good luck. Next are our Wide Receivers!

The Guru Gridiron Report: Week 3 Bench/Start Quarterbacks

QUARTERBACKS YOU MUST START
Week 3 produces several great quarterback match ups for managers that they must start. Eli Manning should easily be able to dice up Cincinnati's pass defense in New York, while Jay Cutler and Drew Brees will get in another shootout and score that may total 60+ points. Tony Romo and Aaron Rodgers will be firing on all cylinders in an early season playoff match, so both will have to be started. Then there is a great match up in San Diego between the Jets and the Chargers. Brett Farve is getting more use to the playbook with each week that goes by and we just saw what Denver and Carolina did to that pass defense especially without Merriman, so start Farve. Phillip Rivers is a QB we were high on in the preseason and that still stands. He has too many weapons and 3 TDs per game. He's a must start.

Other Quarterbacks To Consider Starting With Some Risk
These are the hardest calls to make. These guys will either do great, OK, or stink up th joint. Trent Edwards should be able to pass against a solid Raider pass defense, but expect them to run the ball more so his yards and TDs will be limited. We actually like Matt Cassel this week against Miami. Look for him to exploit match up issues with Welker and Moss. Then there is the big J.T. O'Sullivan Vs. Jon Kitna match up that has disaster written all over it. This could be a 38-35 game or a 20-13 game. We think it will be closer to the higher end, but I would temper my expectations for Kitna. Gore will play a big role in this one as O'Sullivan continues to develop, but look for J.T. to get 2 TDs.

As much as we love Kurt Warner, not this week. He's not are favorite against a fast defense that gets juiced from home field crowds. Enter the Redskins. Big risk in starting Warner. We cannot tell you not to start Peyton Manning, but here are the facts. A three year average of 4 games vs Jacksonville has netted Manning an 84.3 QB rating. Combine that with his slow start and he's a risk, but only a minor one, so feel good in starting him. Donovan McNabb has a match up we like, but Pittsburgh surprises everyone and this is not a good match up for McNabb. However he's at home, coming off a tough loss, and hopefully his big O-line will stop the speedy Pittsburgh pass rush. Start him, but look for no more than 2 TDs at best.
Others: Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub, Matt Hasselbeck, Marc Bulger, Kerry Collins.

Please Bench These Quarterbacks
What has happened to Carson Palmer. We actually like this match up for him, but we have ZERO confidence in him and so should you. Jason Campbell will not have much luck against the stout Arizona pass defense so if you have someone else to start consider it. Big Ben will not have fun trying to figure out Philadelphia's blitz's and on the road makes it worst. Bench Ben Roethlisberger.
Others:
David Garrard, JaMarcus Russell, Chad Pennington, Brian Griese.

Sleeper Quarterbacks
There aren't many this week, but we expect Gus Frerotte to make some magic for Minnesota against Carolina. Also we like Derek Anderson against the aging Baltimore Ravens defense.

Good luck. Next are our Runningbacks!

The True Guru Goes 5-1 again in Week 2!

Some experts just talk, but The True Guru playing and playing up to expectations. For the second week in a row I managed to go 5-1 only losing to Jeff Mans in The Fantasy Football Search Expert League .

Leagues: 6 (3 Yahoo!, 2 CBS Sportsline, 1 ESPN)
Total Record: 10-2

Most of the match ups were challenging, but my team he;d strong through Monday and managed to win in most leagues.

Fantasy Football Search Expert League
Scout Fantasy Football 106, Fantasy Football Search 97
I made some terrible starts and benched some critical players, but still this game was within grasp till the end of the Monday as I had Tony Romo. If he had hit Barber on that last pass with an all out blitz I'd be the victor. Nonetheless I loss and I'm not 1-1 in the expert league.

Coast 2 Coast League
LV Cowboys 137, The Scorpions 94
This was a great match up that I was losing going into Monday, however I had Westbrook, Witten, and Dallas 'D' left and as you can I see I pulled it out. I started Kurt Warner over Farve. The move turned out to be a good one. Over all the rest of my team played well except for Michael Turner.

Football Dynasty VI
LV Cowboys 308, Ugly Roster 191
That name "Ugly Roster" is right. I had a blast watching this game. Ugly Roster had a slow start and never regained any momentum. This was a blowout from the beginning, and was a blast to watch. My entire team managed to play well in week 2, except for Farve, Turner, and Robert Royal. The biggest surprise for me was that my 308 points wasn't the top score in the league. It wasn't even the second, THE THIRD! This is a points heavy league.

J.A.I.L. League
The True Guru 134, Don't Tread On Me 132
This was the the closest most exciting game of the week. I had a small lead going into Monday, but we both had plenty of firepower left. I had DeSean Jackson, Terrell Owens, and Jason Witten. My opponent had Marion Barber and Donovan McNabb. Throughout Monday night's game the lead switched hands several times and it came down to the last play of the game where Donovan McNabb hit DeSean Jackson on a 4th and 17 play that netted me 2 points and the win.

Vegas Vs Texas League
LV Cowboys 191 - The GOAT 133
This is my toughest rival and without Tom Brady his team lacked any real super power. The "Greatest Of All Time" didn't stand a chance even going into Monday with DeSean Jackson against my two super powers in Westbrook and Barber. Not only did I win big, but I got top score in the league winning it for the first time this season. I lost week 1 here, so this was a much needed win in week two.

NSP Experts League
FF Search 130, XFF 101
I beat my co host and good friend Mike Bowser. I build a strong lead on him Sunday with my Bronco receivers of Royal and Marshall along with my Bears defense. I will get Steve Smith back this week. Mike's team played poorly, but made a strong comeback on Monday with Romo, but in the end I won our first match up of the season.

The Guru Gridiron Report: Expert League Week 2 Games

This is the start of our Guru Gridiron Report on the expert league being hosted at http://www.fantasyfootballsearch.com/. Every week will bring you updates, scores, and analysis of what went on in that week in The 2008 Fantasy Football Search Expert League.

Fighting Chance Fantasy 130, Big Game Fantasy Sports 116
This was a high scoring and exciting match up between Ryan Hallam and Patrick Welsh. Ryan pulled it out with the performance to two players we have been high on all year, Marion Barber and Brandon Marshall. Between those two players FCF got 70 points. BGFP had a much better more well rounded team with great a performance from Tony Scheffler, but didn't get enough to outscore those two amazing performances.

Fantasy Football Starters 67, Mock Draft Central 54
In the lowest scoring affair if the week Fantasy Football Starters managed to beat a weak Mock Draft Central. Both teams had very tough weeks with only 4 of 18 players scoring in the double digits. FFS pulled it off with solid performances from Frank Gore and Hines Ward. I'm sure this is one of those weeks both managers rather forget, but FFS was happy to leave with a win.

Xtreme Fantasy Football 172, Johnny Archive 133
In contrast to the last match up, here is the biggest scoring game of the week between my radio partner Mike Bowser and Johnny Archive. Mike from www.xtremefantasyfootball.com practiced what he preaches on his site and on our radio show. He started and scored mad points from Kurt Warner, Clinton Portis, Greg Jennings, and Larry Fitzgerald. IN all those 4 players netted him 110 points on his way to a big victory. Johnny Archive has some fireworks himself scoring 133 points behind fantastic starts by Ernest Graham, Donovan McNabb, Chris Chambers, and Santana Moss. In all his top 4 players brought in 108 points. What a match up and very similar to the Monday night Eagles/Cowboys game.

Scout Fantasy Football 106, Fantasy Football Search 97
Two of the hosts of The Fantasy Football Scouting Report met head on in an early season match up and was it exciting. This game came down to coaching and how to start and bench. To play it simple, Jeff Mans won that battle. The Bears Defense, Donald Driver along with Plaxico Buress put a hurting on The True Guru. I did bench several key players that would have got me the points I need, but risky starts like Ricky Williams, Cardinals Defense, and Donte Rosario netted me only 10.1 points total. By the end of Sunday Scout Fantasy Football led 106-75. I had only one player left, enter Tony Romo. He made it exciting with 31 points, but Jeff got the win and the better of the first Guru match up.

Nooffseason.com 140, NFL Fantasy Playbook 79
Why everyone is thinking Matt Cassel is Tom Brady I just don't know. AJ chose to gran him from free agency and with that brought home only 6 points from his QB position. Paul Hickey at Nooffseason.com had a fantastic game with huge output from Jay Cutler, Darren McFadden, and Calvin Johnson. This was not a pretty match up. AJ will be going back to the drawing board after a 0-2 start.

Fantasy Sports Zone 137, Pro Fantasy Games 113
Rhett Oldham got his first win of the season and kept Pro Fantasy Games winless with a big game performances by Adrian Peterson, Anthony Gonzalez, Titans Defense and Torry Holt. They overpowered Pro Fantasy Games even with big games from Brian Westbrook and Brant Johnson.

Owners Box Sports 153, Junkyard Jake 131
This was an outstanding game between to great teams. Joe from Owners Box Sports had big games from players we expect like Terrell Owens and Anquan Boldin, but also had a 27 point game from Julius Jones. In all that trio scored him a whopping 95 points. RC from Junkyard Jake tried to keep up with outstanding games from Eli Manning, Reggie Wayne, and Giants Defense, but fell short in a shootout.

There are the updates.
Week 3 Match Ups:
Big Game Fantasy Sports (0-2) Vs. Fantasy Football Search (1-1) - Patrick challenged The True Guru during the baseball season. He will look for his first win against The True Guru.

Scout Fantasy Football Vs. Xtreme Fantasy Football - Two of the Gurus match up in a Titanic clash. Bowser will be looking to win his second game of the season against the undefeated Jeff Mans.

Nooffseason (2-0) Vs. Fantasy Football Starters (2-0) - The only game this wee between two undefeated teams.

Mock Draft Central (0-2) Vs. NFL Fantasy Playbook (0-2) - Someone will win their first game and build momentum for the season.

Owners Box Sports (2-0) Vs. Pro Fantasy Games (0-2) Pro Fantasy Games will attempt to get his first win against a hot Owners Box Sports team.

Fighting Chance Fantasy (1-1) Vs. Johnny Archive (0-2) Ryan Hallam and Johnny Archive face off with Johnny looking for a ripe upset against a tough rival.

Fantasy Sports Zone (1-1) Vs. Junkyard Jake (1-1) - Both these guys have snake eyes and both want to get over the .500 hump. Should go down to the wire.

NFL Touchdown Sunday Quick Hits - Week 2

Pittsburgh Steelers 10, Cleveland Browns 6
So when do you think the suits at 280 Park Avenue will start kicking themselves for putting the sexy Browns on prime time five times this year? The biggest mistake the league and networks made was having three of those prime time games come after Halloween.

After Kellen Winslow screamed “I was open! I was open!” on his way into the locker room at the end of the first half (which, you recall, ended with Derek Anderson tossing an interception to Troy Polamalu), he went out and had a drop, committed a false start and ran more than one impotent route in the second half. Oh, he also had his lunch eating in several blocking situations.

I have no idea why the Browns don’t incorporate Jerome Harrison into their offense more. If Braylon Edwards is going to continue to be ineffective, Harrison may be Cleveland’s only playmaker.

Props to Chris Kemoeatu and the rest of the Steelers offensive line. I’m one of the doubters who, so far, have been disproved.

Santonio Holmes has officially surpassed Hines Ward as Pittsburgh’s premium wideout.

I’m sorry, but wasn’t Rashard Mendenhall supposed to be the two-punch behind Willie Parker?

Denver Broncos 39, San Diego Chargers 38
After this game, Norv Turner said that Ed Hochulli’s blown call on the Jay Cutler fumble was not acceptable and that it decided the game. Shut up, Norv. Your team gave up 39 points, including consecutive scores from inside the five-yard-line in the waning seconds. That’s what decided the game.

Not to mention, Hochulli made a mistake, yes (kudos to him for publicly admitting it, by the way). But it’s not like the Chargers did anything on that play – Cutler simply dropped the ball. So again, Norv, shut up.

New nickname for Antonio Cromartie: Mrs. Brandon Marshall.

How about Jay Cutler? 36/50 for 350 yards and four touchdowns!? The guy may wind up being the most prolific passer in the AFC this year. Before the season I wrote that with his arm strength, he’ll have to really fight the temptation to force tough throws into traffic. A great example of that was his interception in the end zone to Antoine Cason. But that one bad play puts only a mild dent in the young passer’s outstanding performance.

Broncos rookie left tackle Ryan Clady has performed well thus far. In fact, that whole offensive line has.

I’m really liking Denver’s running back by committee approach. Selvin Young has been making big plays, Andre Hall still catches defenses off guard when he enters the game and Michael Pittman knows how to produce near the goal line.

Tony Scheffler looks more like a star every time I see him.

Arizona Cardinals 31, Miami Dolphins 10
At one point, Kurt Warner was 9/9 for 221 yards and two touchdowns. That’s how you know he was playing the Dolphins.

The Arizona coaching staff was on Larry Fitzgerald all offseason about being a tougher runner after the catch. Fitzgerald listened. His diligent improvements in this area have been on shimmering display the first two weeks (his 75-yard catch and run in this game obviously being the brightest highlight so far).

Ricky Williams was the buzz coming out of Dolphins camp. Through two games, he has 21 carries for 52 yards and hasn’t shown an ounce of burst. It should be noted that Ronnie Brown has not been anything special, either, and Miami’s front five has looked every bit like the inexperienced, makeshift unit that it is.

The cameras were on Kendall Langford after his personal foul facemask penalty kept what turned out to be a Cardinal touchdown drive alive. With Langford being a small school rookie, and the cameras catching Tony Sparano talking to him, homogeneous analysts everywhere made the brilliant observation of “what a big mistake the young guy made.” Lay off him. It was a facemasking violation on a sack – that’s just one of those things.

P.S. Cardinal fans: your team is 2-0 after beating the 49ers and Dolphins. Be please, but contain your enthusiasm until the Cards face a varsity team.

Patriots Will Survive

Sunday will bring the unthinkable. Brett Favre will take the field in front of a raucous home crowd wearing green and…white. Tom Brady won’t take the field at all. This is how CBS will market the game. And this is why we’ll watch. Are we sure that death and taxes are certain?
The last time Matt Cassel started a football game, Brett Favre was failing to win the MVP award for the first time in four years (though he was still pretty good). On Sunday, America will start to speculate about a most unexpected shift in power in the previously-resolved AFC East. Are the Jets primed for a pick off at the top? Or, more accurately, are the Patriots primed for a plunge?
No and no. What Brady’s injury did––besides ruin the season for roughly eight percent of fantasy owners, and expose the pitiful schadenfreude of class of those esteemed football scholars who celebrated New England’s supposed serving of karma––was prompt new questions about the Patriots’ offensive situation. How will the guy under center function on an entirely new stage? How will the playbook look?

Week 2 Bench/Start Defenses & Kickers Guru Style!

As we expected in week 1, some defenses surprised up both positively and negatively. There were some like the Vikings defense who did much worse then expected and some like Buffalo that did much better.

WEEK 2
Here are our defenses that you have to start.

TIER 1 MUST START
Chicago - They are back and they are good.
Jacksonville
Arizona SLEEPER

Now there are some great tier 2 defenses that you should start if you have them on your roster.
Tier 2 SHOULD START
Tennessee
New York Giants
Baltimore
Pittsburgh
Washington SLEEPER - Could surprise at their home opener against a beat up Saints offense.
Indianapolis
Dallas - McNabb will not see the same success in Big D.
Minnesota - We see a big comeback for the Vikings at home.
San Francisco SLEEPER
New York Jets SLEEPER
Tampa Bay - They can stop Turner

Here are the High risk, high reward defenses that all have a high risk tag on them right now. We consider them our Tier 3 defenses. Very hard to call.
Tier 3 - RISK CALLS
Carolina - They looked good for a half against San Diego. We do not think they are for real, so even know its Chicago we say bench them.
New England - Big risk. Less offense, and a hungry Jets team on the road. Not for us.
Houston - This might actually be a good week to start them. At least they have NFL film on Joe Flacco.

Now we are at the must bench portion. People tend not to like our Tier 4 defense picks because their DEF may be here, but this is what we think for week 2.
Tier 4 MUST BENCH
Philadelphia
San Diego
Miami
Denver
Cincinnati
Detroit

We are no longer going to do kickers. They are way to hard to predict. and most teams only have one anyway. If you need to find a kicker cause of a BYE week base your decisions on 3 factors:

1. Is the kicker kicking in a Dome? (that's good)

2. Is the Defense the kicker facing a tough defense?

3. Is the kicker's offense very good?

Week 2 Bench/Start Wide Receivers/Tight Ends Guru Style!

WRs were a bit of a week 1 disappointment with so many receivers suspended and the TDs and yards being spread out so much. Things should come together in week 2 for some of them. On the other hand tight ends looked very good and some new names will pop up on our TE list.

Here are our WRs that you have to start.
TIER 1 MUST START
Terrell Owens
Larry Fitzgerald
Plaxico Buress
Anquan Boldin
Jerrico Cotchery
Reggie Wayne
DJ Hackett SLEEPER
Greg Jennings
Brandon Marshall
Calvin Johnson
Wes Welker
Santonio Holmes - He should have a much better week 2 like we expect.
Andre Johnson
Dwayne Bowe - You have to give him a shot after what Denver did to Oakland last week.
Vincent Jackson - He's the rising star in San Diego.

TIER 1 MUST START TIGHT ENDS
Antonio Gates
Vernon Davis SLEEPER
Kellen Winslow
Heath Miller
Jason Witten
Dante Rosario - He will have one more good game before Smith gets back.
Tony Gonzalez - You have to start him against rival Oakland.

Now there are some great tier 2 wide receivers that you should start and we will tell you those guys now.
Tier 2 SHOULD START
Chad Johnson
Randy Moss
Lavernues Coles
Braylon Edwards
Hines Ward
Chris Chambers
DeSean Jackson
Eddie Royal
Torry Holt
Ike Hillard
Joey Galloway
Roddy White
Marvin Harrison
T.J. Houshmandzadeh
Ronald Curry
Sidney Rice
Donald Driver
Roy Williams
Bryant Johnson
Hank Basket SLEEPER
David Patten
Robert Meacham SLEEPER

Tier 2 SHOULD START TIGHT ENDS
Chris Cooley
Tony Scheffler
Dallas Clark - If he plays, check injury status.
Jeremy Shockey
Robert Royal
Dustin Keller
John Baker
Anthony Fasano
Donald Lee
Mercedes Lewis
Alge Crumpler
LJ Smith
David Thomas SLEEPER
ss

Like all positions there are some WRs that have a high risk tag on them right now. We consider them our Tier 3 wide receivers. Very hard to call.
Tier 3 - RISK CALLS
Patrick Crayton - We think Owens, Barber, and Witten will get most of the touches this week. Risky play.
Derrick Mason - He will get some catches, but finding the end zone will be very tough.
Josh Morgan - You've heard us talk allot about this guy. Here's a big opportunity for him.

Now we are at the must bench portion. People tend not to like our Tier 4 wide receiver picks because their WR may be here, but this is what we think for week 2.
Tier 4 MUST BENCH
Shaun McDonald
Courtney Taylor
Javon Walker
Jerry Porter
Greg Lewis
Lee Evans
Amani Toomer
Isaac Bruce

Tier 4 MUST BENCH TIGHT ENDS
Zach Miller

Week 2 Bench/Start Runningbacks Guru Style!

We had some runningbacks get hurt and some others not up to snuff. We will call it WEEK 1 and move on. We expect allot more action from this position in week 2.

Here are our RBs that you have to start.
TIER 1 MUST START
Laurence Maroney SLEEPER - Morris stole some carries, but this is a different game plan and he should be a work horse.
Marion Barber - Watch his injury status.
Brian Westbrook - Always plays well against Dallas.
Brandon Jacobs - He will run through and over the Rams.
Ryan Grant - He should have a very nice 100+ yard game and 1 TD against Detroit.
Maurice Jones-Drew - Its his time to shine.
Adrian Peterson - Indy cannot stop this guy even with Sanders 100%.
Stephen Jackson - He's healthy and running hard. The Rams will establish a running attack.
Frank Gore - Watch out, this could be a huge game for Gore.
LaDainian Tomlinson - averaged 4.6 yards in the opener but failed to score. He'll get that score and more this week.
Willie Parker - He won't repeat week 1, but he should have room to run all day against Cleveland.
Chris Johnson - This guy looked good week 1 and now has Cincy to attack.
Reggie Bush - Whether he runs or catches, he will get the yards.

Now there are some great tier 2 runningbacks that you should start and we will tell you those guys now.
Tier 2 SHOULD START
Thomas Jones
Ernest Graham
Matt Forte
Kevin Smith
Marshawn Lynch
Larry Johnson
Ricky Williams/Ronnie Brown
Ray Rice
Clinton Portis
Their are RBs that have a high risk tag on them right now. We consider them our Tier 3 runningbacks. Very hard to call.
Tier 3 - RISK CALLS
Jamal Lewis - He is nursing a sore hamstring and going up against a Pittsburgh defense. Not good.
Joseph Addai - He's a must start, but the Vikings defense stuffs the run and we see Manning going to the air more. Tough call if you own him.
Baltimore Running Game - Ok, is it Rice or is it McClain? Either way they will run allot. Its a risk cause they may go with the hot hand nad who will that be?
Tim Hightower - We really like this guy and he will get goal line carries, so watch him. He may steal a few carries from James.
Sammy Morris - He got allot of carries and may be worth a shot if you are desperate.
DeAngelo Williams/ Jonathon Stewart - Tough call. They are splitting carries. Whoever gets the most carries we like. Both backs are great, just depends which one shines.

Now we are at the must bench portion. People tend not to like our Tier 4 runningback picks because their RB may be here, but this is what we think for week 2.
Tier 4 MUST BENCH
Edgerrin James - He just doesn't find the end zone.
LenDale White
Fargas/McFadden
Chris Perry
Julius Jones

Week 2 Bench/Start Quarterbacks Guru Style!

Note: Due to a funeral on Thursday we are releasing our picks 1 day early.

OK everyone here are our week 2 picks at QB. Week 1 is the hardest week in the season to pick since there are so many intangibles. This week things have come a little more clear to us.
We will start with our must starts. These are the guys you have to start and have no choice but to start.
Tier 1 MUST STARTS
Aaron Rodgers - We were high on him from the start, and even higher after what he did to Minnesota's defense.
Eli Manning - Did you see what McNabb did to St. Louis last week? Eli won't do that, but he should have a great game.
Jay Cutler - With Royal and Marshall he will be so good.
Tony Romo - He is always a must start.
Brett Farve - Even know Farve isn't involved in this rivalry, he will start now. The Jets are salivating at the chance to defeat New England at home.
Kurt Warner - At home against Miami, uh yea.
Phillip Rivers - He did great in his first game. Look for a shoot out in Denver.
Ben Roethlisberger - Only if he's healthy.
Donovan McNabb - I hate to do this with his inconsistency, but he will be in a shootout with Romo.
Drew Brees - He will throw allot against the Redskins.
Here are are quarterbacks that you should start even know there is a little risk with them. They all should perform well and get you some points. Some could have big games.
Tier 2 SHOULD START
Derek Anderson
Jason Campbell SLEEPER
Peyton Manning
Carson Palmer
John Kitna
Marc Bulger
J.T. O'Sullivan SLEEPER
Matt Schaub
Brian Griese
Here are the HIGH RISK PLAYERS to high to call
Jake Delhomme - We aren't sold on him and he's going home to face a resurgent Chicago defense. We would recommend benching him at this point.
Chad Pennington - We liked what we saw last week, but don't expect that against the Cardinals at home.
Matt Cassel - OK, so he's the next Tom Brady? No. They will run allot more, but when Cassel gets comfortable he should be good. He's a solid start against the Jets, but still a risk.
Tavaris Jackson - We have to admit we liked what we saw from Jackson. He's a risk to start this week, but keep an eye on him for the future.
David Garrard - Until he gets more receivers he's a risk. We love him this year, but he needs healthy WRs. He's a solid start this week and we'd start him.
Now, here are the guys you have to BENCH.
Tier 4 MUST BENCH
Trent Edwards
Matt Ryan
Kerry Collins
Matt Hasselbeck
Klye Orton
Our runningbacks are coming next.

Guru Leagues Update: The True Guru Stirkes First Blood Going 5-1 In Week 1

It was a great first week for The True Guru. I managed to win 5 of my 6 leagues and the updates have been posted to at Fantasy Football Search. Here is the breakdown of my great week.

Fantasy Football Search Expert League
The True Guru 126, Archive Nation Troops 92
I took on my friend Johnny Archive and it was a blood thirty contest that ended with a big win for The True Guru. My team with Tony Romo, Reggie Bush, and Randy Moss just couldn't be stopped. Thomas Jones added in 22 points with a fiery first week and made it impossible for me to lose this week. Again, wins in expert leagues are huge. I notched one this week and I have to say it felt good!

J.A.I.L League
The True Guru 110, Large and In Charge 94

I tied with the top score in the league and did it with help from my tremendous receiving core of Plaxico Buress, Larry Fitzgerald and Terrell Owens who all combined for 44 points. However, the Bears defense get the game ball in this league for the week getting me 20 points. It was a big win in a tough league to start the season.

Texas Vs Vegas League
Da Bears 152, LV Cowboys 143

This was our only loss of the week and it was a tough one to take for a money league. I've been in this league 9 years and Da Bears has always played me tough, but bad luck was on my side this week. First and foremost my Vikings defense completely let me down. They were a bust week 1. Add on I lost Marion Barber for nearly a quarter and a half in which Felix Jones got a TD and 62 yards. That would have put me over the top. The silver lining in all this is I get Brandon Marshal back next week instead of starting DeAngelo Willaims. Very nice. Great win for Da Bears as his team with Drew Brees was too much for me this week.

Football Dynasty VI
The True Guru 275, Handlbars! 231

What a fun week it was in this high scoring league. This is the league that starts 10 individual defensive players. I had the second highest score in the league even with busts like J.T. O'Sullivan, Drew Bennett, and Josh Brown on my starting roster. Reggie Bush was the star here along with Terrell Owens. On the defensive side John Abraham, Kyle Vander Bosch, and Aaron Kampmen turned in outstanding performances. This league starts 21 players every week, so it will be a fun one to watch and an important one to win in each week.

Coast 2 Coast
LV Cowboys 123, Packers Forever 65

If you don't already know, Packers Forever is a top team in this league and is a tight rival with me going back two years when he knocked me out of the playoffs. I got some extra revenge and started my title defense with a ass whoopin'. I scored the most points in the league and did it with outstanding performances by Michael Turner, Brian Westbrook, Brett Farve, and Reggie Wayne. The game ball definitely goes to Turner with 220 yards and 2 TDs. All the guys in this league are gunning after me with my smack talk and 2007 championship. I'm ready for them.

NSP Experts League
FF Search 95, Brunoboys.net 78

Big win in the NSP Experts League for Fantasy Football Search. I was losing this one until the second games started and never looked back. Out of my teams 95 points, 71 points were scored between Drew Brees, Kevin Smith, Antonio Gates, and the Bears defense. Drew Brees gets my game ball in this league for week 1. Larry at Bruno Boys put up a helluva fight, but some of his key players had letdown week 1 games. Any match up in an expert league is a tough one.

The True Guru's Week 1 Review

What a week 1 and what a way to start the NFL season. So many significant injuries, none more than Tom Brady's. Also, several rookies shined in a week that changed every experts views of the 2008 NFL season. Let's get this party started.

Quarterbacks

The biggest news of the weekend was Tom Brady tearing his ACL and he is out for the year. Veteran backup Matt Cassel will take the helm for the Patriots for the rest of the season. From a fantasy and realistic perspective we know very little of what Matt Cassel brings to the table. In 4 years he has played 15 total games including last Sunday. He has 3 career TDs and a robust 405 yards. We think he will do alright in New England with a veteran team helping him out and great receivers, however he is not Tom Brady and doesn't even come close to fitting in the man's shoes. Everyone running out to get Cassel, its buyer beware. We do feel the Patriots will be absolutely forced to go to a more balanced attack and we will discuss that later in this post. This also hurts the value of Wes Welker and Randy Moss without a doubt.

Phillip Rivers shined on Sunday throwing 3 TDs and hitting a stud in the making Vincent Jackson for 1 of them.

Kurt Warner had an effective, but most would say disappointing day with 197 yards and 1 TD. Two notes to take from this game, he didn't get hurt and ZERO interceptions.

Kyle Orton still bad, despite the Bears winning. However Tavaris Jackson is upgraded as he showed precision passing in a hostile game that the Viking's could not win without help from the Gods.
His counterpart Aaron Rodgers did exactly as we expected and that was good. As an NFL quarterback he did outstanding, but fantasy wise just solid with 2 TDs and 178 yards.

Brett Farve showed he is still a quality fantasy quarterback against a weak Miami defense throwing 2 TDs and 197 yards.

The quarterback of the week has to go to Tony Romo. Is was our #2 QB on in the preseason and with Brady out he is #1 and playing like it. 320 yards and 1 TD, which should have been more, but made a first game mistake throwing an INT in the end zone. He showed in that game against Cleveland that he will be a constant producer all season.

We expect much more from David Garrard, but his first game with 215 yards and 1 TD was lower then expected. keep in mine he played a tough defense and most of his wide receivers were injured

Derek Anderson had a bad game, but looked good against a tough defense. His receivers dropped allot of passes. That won't happen all year.

McNabb and Brees also had outstanding first games with 300+ yards and 3 TDs each.

On the other hand Matt Hasselbeck reminded us of why we are so down on him this year. 190 yards and a TD and INT. Couple that in with the loss of Burelson and its bad news.

Grab Shaun Hill if you can cause J.T. O'Sullivan's days could be numbered with another poor performance. We like Hill much better anyhow.

Runningbacks

Marion Barber was outstanding against Cleveland and if it wasn't for a rib injury would have had a huge game. Barber had 80 yards and 2 TDs. Felix Jones filled in with 62 yards and a TD. His enemy counterpart in Philly Brian Westbrook did exceptional as well with 92 yards and 2 TDs.

Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears was a rookie on display. He showed that the Bears do have an offense with 123 yards and a TD.

Michael Turner found his groove in Atlanta with 220 yards and 2 TDs for the absolute performance of the week. We expected great things out of him being he was our #1 sleeper this year.

Carolina showed us the fantasy dreaded two-headed dragon of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathon Stewart. Williams was 18 for 83 yards and Stewart was 10 for 53 yards. While both runningbacks had OK games running, neither got in the end zone and we think that will remain problem as long as its a two-headed dragon and not a 1 back operation. However we are still high on both runningbacks as 3rd RBs for your fantasy roster.

Ryan Grant had a solid game and except for a somewhat lucky 57 yard dash he would have ended with 35 yards on 11 carries. That's right only 12 total carries. Should we be concerned? No, it was the Vikings.

Joseph Addai was a major let down for fantasy owners compiling only 47 total yards. No need to judge this juggernaut after 1 game, he'll be fine. However, Frank Gore showed us he's back with 96 yards and a TD.

Another #1 draft pick Stephen Jackson was a huge disappointment with 74 total yards. Again, let it go since it was week 1.

Finally Thomas Jones and Reggie Bush. We liked both and if you started them you did alright. Jones had 101 yards and a TD, while Bush had 163 total yards, 8 receptions, and a TD.

Watch what happens in Tennessee with Chris Johnson and LenDale White. There could e a changing of the guard.

Wide Receivers

As expected wide receivers like Terrell Owens, Reggie Wayne, Plaxico Buress, Randy Moss, and Larry Fitzgerald did will. Even Andre Johnson had a very good game in a ppr league. Marques Colston was a hug disappointment. I've written that word so much I've stopped needing the spell checker to correct it.

The great calls this week start with Jerrico Cotchery. Many of us felt he would shine with Brett Farve and he did with 80 yards and a TD. His counterpart Lavernues Coles was a huge disappointment with only 1 catch for 5 yards.

The Detroit Lions came out to play and burned us. Calvin Johnson had a solid game with 7 catches for 107 yards. We recommended benching Roy WIlliams and he had a solid game catching a TD and 47 yards.

The twin towers in Arizona had nice games. Anquan Boldin had 8 catches in the second half for 82 yards, but Fitzgerald got the lone touchdown.

In Seattle things got worse. Nate Burelson injured his knee and is out for the year.

Gregg Jenning's looked solid connecting with Rodgers on a 56 yard bomb and finished with 5 catches for 91 yards. Driver did poorly with only 38 yards, but did lose a TD to a ridiculous penalty.

In San Diego Vincent Jackson and Chris Chambers both caught TD's in a loss.

Hines Ward shocked us and probably many in the fantasy world catching 6 passes for 76 yards and 2 TDs, while his counterpart Santonio Holmes was a massive loss with only 19 yards. That is n anomaly of a game.

Here's a note, Ike Hillard with 45 yards and a TD outperformed all the Rams receivers including Torry Holt and Drew Bennett. Ouch. Double ouch for Bennett as he is out for at least 1 month with a injured foot.

The surprises this week were a bunch.

DeSean Jackson was fabulous. W expected big things from him this season and he didn't disappoint with 6 catches for 106 yards. Hank Basket added in a 90 yard reception, so not bad.

Rookie Eddie Royal one-upped him with a huge game against the Oakland Raiders. Royal had 9 catches, 146 yards, and a TD. Absolutely brilliant. His namesake Robert Royal didn't do as well, but chipped in 52 yards and a TD for Buffalo.

Sidney Rice also made an appearance in the end zone with 31 yards and a TD. We wouldn't get excited too much about Michael Jenkins 62 yard TD catch. It was his only catch of the day and the first pass overall.

All San Francisco receivers were let downs. We expected more out of that offense, and got little.

Other Notables
Antonio Gates proved injury conspiracy theorists wrong with a big game, 4 catches, 61 yards and a TD. His counterpart in that game Dante Rosario had a breakout performance with 7 catches for 96 yards and a game winning touchdown.

The Minnesota Vikings defense let down allot of people this week including me, but the Bears defense showed why they are still the real deal and why we still believed in them. One of our sleeper defenses the Tennessee Titans had a great game and the surprise Philadelphia Eagles hammered and humbled the Rams on heir home turf.

Dallas and Buffalo showed there reasons for why they are emerging defenses in fantasy football, while the Chargers were a huge let down. Shawn Merriman will have to have surgery as he was ineffective.

Benoit's Sunday Quick Hits Week 1

New England Patriots 14, Kansas City Chiefs 10
Alright, to avoid the obvious, let’s do this: second biggest story from this game? How about New England’s defense stifling the Chiefs inside the 10-yard line to end the game. Imagine how demoralizing a last-minute collapse would have been, given the first biggest story. ******* Speaking of….Tom Brady’s ACL is the most significant injury to strike the NFL in my lifetime. Thank goodness it didn’t come during the preseason––I’ve about had it with the “shorten the preseason?” debate. ******* The talk now is How will New England move forward? Brady’s injury is like alcohol poisoning to the Super Bowl hangover they’re already fighting. ******* Matt Cassel had a sturdy performance off the bench, but the tape on him is out there now. For backup quarterbacks, it’s like they’re escaped convicts who get 24 hours to run before the tracking device they’re unknowingly carrying is activated. Once the tracking device––i.e. the tape––surfaces, things change. ******* And don’t get too excited about Cassel’s Week 1 performance. Keep in mind, this was the record-setting Patriots offense, playing in perfect weather at home against a callow Kansas City secondary. Fourteen points? ******* Then again, as the Patriots will come to show this season, a win’s a win. Like old times, the style points no longer matter for Bill Belichick’s team. ******* Deltha O’Neal was big for the Pats in this game. He seems like the type of player who could flourish after a change of scenery. ******* Jerod Mayo had his hands full with all the presnap communication, but he held up just fine. ******* For some reason, Pats fans have been excited about LaMont Jordan in recent weeks. Sunday showed that the veteran runner they should really be excited about is Sammy Morris. He tore it up last year before going down with an injury in October. Morris’s versatility will be a huge plus offensively, especially now that the running backs have become ten times more important. ******* The key guy is obviously Laurence Maroney. He ran with great burst and vision Sunday.

Atlanta Falcons 34, Detroit Lions 21
Perhaps it’s unfair to start with a downer, but Falcons fans, don’t get too carried away with the results here. This game was more of a case of one team simply being more prepared than the other. The Falcons are still the fourth best team in the NFC South. And the Lions are, apparently, still the Lions. ******* Matt Ryan was poised in his debut. Facing Detroit’s mundane Cover 2 defense helped. ******* Having a rushing attack that bludgeoned the Lions for 318 yards didn’t hurt either. ******* When I saw Ryan’s first touchdown strike, my initial thought was not “Wow, what a throw-catch-and-run,” but rather, “Wow, Michael Jenkins is starting! How often does a team value downfield blocking ahead of actual receiving skills? ******* It was in a losing effort, but Calvin Johnson looked fantastic posting 107 yards on seven receptions. I don’t think people completely realize how great he can be. ******* There’s a reason Rudi Johnson was available for Detroit to sign. Kevin Smith will undoubtedly be the featured ballcarrier for this team before Halloween (his 14 rushing attempts to Johnson’s three show he maybe already is). Smith is a pure runner. He is great at nothing but good at everything. That’s not a bad thing––in fact, it once worked out quite well for another running back named Smith.

Baltimore Ravens 17, Cincinnati Bengals 10
If you haven’t read the NFLTouchdown.com preview on the Bengals yet, Cincy fit right into the theme laid out for them in that report. What the hell has happened to Marvin Lewis’s club? ******* Carson Palmer looked really frustrated all afternoon. ******* If you’re thinking that the NFL needs to pull the stick out of its butt on the whole Chad Ocho Cinco thing, realize that the league is likely dragging its feet on the name change because of the enormous ramifications it has with apparel and merchandise. Every 85 Bengals jersey that Reebok made that has the name C. Johnson on the back essentially becomes worthless once the NFL allows the Ocho Cinco nameplate to be unveiled. That’s why they’re being overly cautious. ******* Of course, no one will care what name is on jersey 85 if the guy wearing it only catches one pass. ******* As bad as Cincy’s offense looked, the 11 starting defenders should be arrested for stealing game checks. Did you see the effort they put forth on Mark Clayton’s double reverse touchdown run? Or Joe Flacco’s 38-yard TD scamper? ******* And how does fullback Le’Ron McClain rush for 86 yards against you? ******* Flacco showed that he has the ability to buy second and third chances with his legs. That’s always a valuable tool for any young quarterback.

Fighting Chance Fantasy's Start/Bench Week 1

I am going to attempt in this column to stay away from the top few guys at each position. Obviously if you have Tom Brady, or LaDanian Tomlinson, or Randy Moss they are a must start every week. Here are the next tier guys who could be help or hurt your team in the first week of the year.

Quarterbacks

Start: Kurt Warner, Arizona Cardinals vs. San Francisco 49ers. The Cardinals generally do pretty well against San Francisco. Hell, everyone tends to put up pretty good numbers on the Niners defense. It isn't because the defense stinks that bad, it is just that they are on the field so much due to the sucky offense. With Boldin, Fitzgerald, Edge and Pope at his disposal, and a serious lack of pass rush in San Francisco, look for Warner to put up over 300 yards, and most likely 3 touchdowns.

Start: Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Houston Texans. The Texans were not one of the better defenses against the pass last season, and I believe that Roethlisberger and the Steelers passing attack took a big step forward in 2007. It was the first time that Big Ben was a legitimate fantasy QB. With the expected breakout of Santonio Holmes, reliable Hines Ward, rookie Rashard Mendenhall, and tight end Heath Miller, expect Roethlisberger to spread around 250 yards and 2-3 scores, perhaps one running the ball as he is the size of a linebacker.

Sit: Derek Anderson, Cleveland Browns vs. Dallas Cowboys.
Concussions that force you to miss the majority of the preseason don't make for productive opening weekends. Cleveland has some weapons with all-world WR Braylon Edwards and TE Kellen Winslow, but with his lack of reps, I expect Anderson to struggle out of the gate. Not to mention that the Cowboys have a pretty impressive defense. Hopefully you have a better option to start in the first week of the year.

Sit: Marc Bulger, St. Louis Rams vs. Philadelphia Eagles.
With the signing of Asante Samuel, the Eagles have the best secondary in football. They have three potential Pro Bowlers at corner, and Bulger is coming off an inconsistent, injury filled season. I expect the Rams to be much better this year, but I think that Bulger will have a tough time on opening weekend.

Running Backs

Start: Marion Barber, Dallas Cowboys vs. Cleveland Browns.
One of my favorite fantasy players heading into the 2008 season, expect Barber to have a coming out party in his first season as the main man in Big D. After sharing the duties with Julius Jones for the past couple seasons, Barber will be the workhorse this season, and I expect BIG things. He goes against a fairly weak run defense right out of the gate to boot, so I'm looking for over 100 yards and a score.

Start: Maurice Jones Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Oakland Raiders. The Raiders defense was one of the worst in the league last season at stopping the run, giving up over 130 yards a game. Not sure if Fred Taylor's arrest will cause any discipline, doesn't look like it will in time for this Sunday's game. But Jones-Drew has become a great fantasy source for touchdowns in his first two seasons, and there's no reason to think he won't score even more. As Taylor gets older and to the end of his career, expect Jones-Drew's role to expand more and more.

Sit: Willis McGahee, Baltimore Ravens vs. Cincinnati Bengals. Ok, I just want to start by saying that this has nothing to do with the Bengals defense. They are nothing but average at best, but this is McGahee's first game since having surgery just a few weeks ago, and while I think he might play, I don't see him getting more than a handful of carries. Look for rookie Ray Rice to carry the load Week 1, and then depending on how he does we will see how carries will be distributed in later weeks.

Sit: Larry Johnson, Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots.
Just a couple short years ago, Larry Johnson was one of the best players in all of fantasy football. Some injuries to himself and his offensive line later, and Johnson seems to have fallen out of the top 10 in some drafts I've seen. Johnson was a product of the system, a pretty decent passing attack and one of the best offensive lines in football left him gaping holes to run through. Now, with a much different line, and NO passing game to speak of, Johnson will be the focal point of every defense, every week. And they start against a good one, in the nearly undefeated Patriots. They aren't spring chickens, but they still play great defense.

Wide Receivers

Start: Santonio Holmes, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Houston Texans.
Ok, the Texans have a great cover corner in Dunta Robinson, but I really think that this season will be Holmes' coming out party. He is great at stretching the field and scoring touchdowns. The Steelers have enough weapons, that it is hard for the defense to focus on any one of them, and I could see Santonio having over 100 yards and a score.

Start: Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons vs. Detroit Lions.
True, the Falcons are playing a rookie QB in his first game in the NFL. I know, crazy to recommend White. But, have you seen the Lions TRY to play defense? They are awful. I still think the Lions win the game and Ryan struggles, but I think he gets enough completions to White to make him a good play this upcoming week.

Sit: Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots.
Bowe had a great rookie season with over 70 catches, and he looks like he will have a bright future in the league someday.......if the Chiefs can ever find a quarterback! The Pats have a stingy defense, and Brodie Croyle is awful. Bowe might be a better start against weaker teams, but against the Pats, you should sit him unless you have no choice but to play him.

Sit: Randy Moss, New England Patriots vs. Kansas City Chiefs.
JUST KIDDING!!! Just trying to see if you are paying attention! Obviously, he is a must start every single week.

Tight Ends

Start: Todd Heap, Baltimore Ravens vs. Cincinnati Bengals.
Hey, he isn't injured yet, and when Heap is on the field, he is generally a productive player. The Bengals defense is awful at best, so it is very possible that rookie Joe Flacco will seek out his security blanket often in his first NFL start.

Sit: Owen Daniels, Houston Texans vs. Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers were the highest rated defense last season, and that is with All-Pro strong safety Troy Polamalu missing a good portion of the season. Daniels is a better than average option at tight end, but I think he will struggle here in the first week of the season.

Week One is by far the hardest week to try to predict, so don't overreact on your players this week if they do very, very good, or if they do very, very bad.

As always, your questions (draft questions, adds, drops, trades) and comments are welcome at fightingchancefantasy@gmail.com. I guarantee a response within 18 hours. Go to www.fightingchancefantasy.com for more information.

Week 1 Bench/Start Defenses & Kickers Guru Style!

There will be allot of surprise defenses in week 1. Some will do much better than expected, so much worse. The first few weeks of every season will slowly weed out the bad defenses and spring up the ones that are good. Keep an eye on the Green Bay, Dallas, New England, and Jacksonville to name a few.

DEFENSES
1st Tier Defenses MUST Start:

Minnesota
Dallas
Green Bay
Pittsburgh
New England
Indianapolis
San Diego
Philadelphia

2nd Tier Defenses You have to Start:
Tennessee
NY Giants
Jacksonville
Chicago
New Orleans

Oakland

Seattle

3rd Tier Defenses Start At Your Own Risk:
Washington - We think they are a solid start, but on the road against NY in week 1 mught be a little tough on them. Don't be shocked if they give up allot of yards and a few TD's. They should be able to sack Manning.

Baltimore - We are not sold on Baltimore this year. There defense just isn't the same. We don't think you should bench them, just beware. You may get what you paid for.

4th Tier Defenses MUST BENCH:
NY Jets
Cleveland
Tampa Bay
Atlanta
St Louis
Kansas City
Arizona
Miami
Carolina

Cincinnati

We are no longer going to do kickers. They are way to hard to predict. and most teams only have one anyway. If you need to find a kicker cause of a BYE week base your decisions on 3 factors:
1. Is the kicker kicking in a Dome? (that's good)
2. Is the Defense the kicker facing a tough defense?
3. Is the kicker's offense very good?

NFL Opener Anxieties

By Andy Benoit, www.NFLTouchdown.com

Got a problem....I think.
I feel like I should be ecstatic. I mean, I’m back to having six-day weeks, eating soup and cornbread for dinner and constantly fantasizing about robust men in tight pants. I love professional football. Waiting for the first Sunday of the season feels like being 11 years old and riding to an end-of-the-school-year party at the water park. Although the road has been traveled before, the expectations are enormous.
But growing up, the first week of football always felt awkward for me. No doubt, the enormity of my expectations had something to do with that. When the first 1:00 pm games got underway (11:00 am where I lived), I often felt like something was off. Of course, something was off. Me.
I would worry that I wasn’t amped enough for the start of the season. Or that I would find that I’d missed something in writing my team previews. Sometimes, I’d even worry that time was getting away from me. After all, there are only 17 True Football Sundays a year (True Football Sunday being when my world stopped rotating around the sun and instead revolved around the axis that is DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket); if I don’t fully enjoy the first True Football Sunday, I figured I was wasting nearly six percent of my happiest days of the year. This kind of thinking once made perfect sense.

Anquin Boldin
Torry Holt
Lavernues Coles
Santana Moss
Chris Chambers
Anthony Gonzalez
Isaac Bruce
Roddy White
Ronald Curry
Patrick Crayton
Bryant Johnson

3rd Tier Wide Receivers Start At Your Own Risk(Big Payoff or Big Fall):
Justin Gage - He has the potenial to have a nice game if Vince Young can get the ball to him. Might be worth a start if you need help in week 1.
Greg Jennings - We are concerned about Jenning's getting allot of targets in Rodgers first game and one against Minnesota. Argueably the best defense in the NFL. Bench him if you can.
Donte Stallworth - We actually think that Stallworth will get a score against Dallas, albeit may be the only catch he gets.
Marvin Harrison - Its his first game, so we are tempering our expectations. If you consider 6-7 catches and 80-90 yards a good game then start him. Otherwise he should ride the bench for the first couple of games.
DeSean Jackson - We like this guy allot this year. If you get return points on offense he is definitely worth a look. Philly needs help at WR, so look into him.
Hank Basket - He has shown signs that he could be a productive WR in the NFL. With Curtis out he now has the chance. If you are desperate he should be on your roster.

4th Tier Wide Receivers MUST BENCH:
Muhsin Muhammad
Benard Berrian
Derrick Mason

3rd Tier Runningbacks Start At Your Own Risk(Big Payoff or Big Fall):
Thomas Jones - We think he will be great this year, but we want to see one game before we make any final decisions. He is a must start in our book.
Larry Johnson - Playing against New England is no picnic and I think they will be passing all day. He could see some daylight if KC plays it right.
Darren McFadden - Not sure how many carries he will get in the first game. Fargas will start, but we expect MaFadden to get at least 10-12 carries, so he could be worth a look at. We say wait one game if you can.

4th Tier Runningbacks That You Must BENCH:

Warrick Dunn
Matt Forte
Edgerrin James
Ronnie Brown
Selvin Young
Ryan Grant

Matt Ryan - Young rookie, and first start. Should be a shoot out.

JaMarcus Russell - Is the #1 draft ready to show us what he has. We don't think he's ready yet, but a big game to start the season against Denver might get him going.

Fighting Chance Fantasy's Team Defense Rankings

The Team Defense spot on your roster is often overlooked, but could be a great source of points for your team on a weekly basis if you are able to get a good one. It is hard to say when you should start drafting the defense, I generally do it once someone else has started, or if I have my starting lineup filled and there is no player that is screaming "You gotta have me!" at me. Don't stretch too early, however, I wouldn't pick a DEF over a quality WR or RB. But here is your list of the best defensive teams.

Top 20 Team Defenses

  1. San Diego Chargers
    17.8 Points/Game, 42 sacks, 18 fumbles rec., 30 INT, 5 TDs

This team has it all, they get a great pass rush, led by Pro Bowler Shawne Merriman, great corner play out of Quentin Jammer and Antonio Cromartie who knows how to find the endzone, and they get two games against the offensively inept Chiefs and Raiders. Shaun Phillips is also emerging as a solid defensive player. Great matchups against the Falcons and Dolphins also on the schedule.

  2. Pittsburgh Steelers
    16.8 ponts/game, 36 sacks, 14 fumbles rec., 11 INT, 2 TDs

Always known as a defensive team, the Steelers of 2008 should be no different. James Harrison and James Farrior are great playmakers from the linebacking corps, and Troy Polamalu should return to form following a injury plagued season. Baltimore twice and a Week 16 game against the Titans should highlight their best defense performances.

  3. Dallas Cowboys
20.3 points/game, 46 sacks, 10 fumbles rec., 19 INT, 3 TDsThe additions of Zach Thomas and Pacman, excuse me, Adam Jones makes a great defensive team even better. DeMarcus Ware is quickly turning into one of the best outside linebackers in the game, Terence Newman is a shutdown corner, and while Roy Williams carries name value, it is Ken “The Hammer” Hamlin who is the playmaking safety on this team. Expect all of their defense numbers to improve.

  4. Indianapolis Colts
    16.4 points/game, 28 sacks, 15 fumbles rec., 22 INT, 2 TDs

Once known as an offensive team that had to make up for their defense, the Colts are now a well-balanced team thanks to their great D. Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney form one of the most formidable pass rushers in the league, Gary Brackett is a solid middle linebacker, and don’t forget Defensive Player of the Year Bob Sanders. Sanders is literally everywhere on the football field, making tackles, rushing the QB, and even picking off a few passes. Loads of bad offensive teams are on the Colts schedule including the Bears, Vikings, Jaguars twice, Texans twice, and the Ravens.

  5. New England Patriots
    17.1 points/games, 47 sacks, 12 fumbles rec., 19 INT, 6 TDs

Is there anything that didn’t go the Pats way last season? Ok, the Super Bowl, but other than that. The offense was so good and on the field so much, that the defense looked even that much better. They are anchored by Tedy Bruschi in the middle, Adalius Thomas on the end, Richard Seymour and Vince Wilfork up front, and bad boy Rodney Harrison floating around at safety. The Bills and Dolphins are on the schedule twice each, as well as Chiefs, Niners, and Raiders. Look for another great year from the Patriots D.

  6. Chicago Bears
    21.8 points/game, 41 sacks, 17 fumbles rec., 16 INT, 1 TD

The Monsters of the Midway? Not anymore, but the Bears’ defensive unit is still very solid. They gave Brian Urlacher a new contract, which should keep him happy and flying around the field with Lance Briggs, and an improving Hunter Hillemeyer at linebacker. Their pass rush comes from Adewale Ogunleye and Tommie Harris, and if Mike Brown could EVER stay healthy at safety, the Bears would be even more formidable. Outside of the Titans and Falcons, most of their schedule consists of at least decent offensive teams, but this unit is so good, it could shut down even the best.

  7. Baltimore Ravens
    24 ponts/game, 32 sacks, 6 fumbles rec., 17 INT, 1 TD

This team has definitely started to age on the defensive side, but the talent is still there. They have a stellar pass rush with Terrell Suggs, Trevor Pryce, and Bart Scott. And although he isn’t what he once was, Ray Lewis still strikes fear in the hearts of QBs and running backs. Chris McAllister is still a solid corner, and you can always count on Ed Reed to be around the ball. They get the Texans, Titans, Dolphins, and Raiders, but it is all in the first half of the season.

  8. Minnesota Vikings
    19.4 points/game, 38 sacks, 16 fumbles rec., 15 INT, 8 TDs

Is this the return of the Purple People Eaters? The Vikings will be led by newly-acquired Jared Allen to terrorize the quarterback, and how can you possibly run by the two-ton Williams boys, Pat and Kevin plugging up the middle? Watch E.J. Henderson become one of the top middle linebackers in the league this year, after he pretty much flew under the radar in 2007. Chad Greenway needs to stay healthy, and he can be a breakout candidate as well. Antoine Winfield is a great cover corner, and they brought in a pair of playmaking safeties in Madieu Williams and Michael Boulware to team with veteran Darren Sharper. This unit will certainly be the strength of the team and two matchups with the Bears and Lions, one with the Dolphins, Titans, Texans, and Falcons in Week 16 highlight the soft part of their schedule.
