The Training Camp Blog with Jeff Mans Fantasy Football Search Season Pass
During the first week of training camp, WR Mike Walker flashed great route running ability and a fine chemistry with QB David Garrard. Then he injured his lower leg and has not been heard from since. Walker has now missed 11 straight practices and has lost his grip on the Jags WR2 spot to...believe it or not...Troy Williamson!
Williamson has been quite good both in practice and in the Jags first preseason game where he caught 4-74 yards. There has never been a doubt about Williamson's speed but his hands have been extremely disappointing throughout his career.
Needless to say, the Jaguars are looking for better performances out of their WR corps. The injury to Walker is much worse than originally let on and some have speculated that it may actually be a knee or high ankle sprain. In that case, Williamson is much more likely to win the job. Overall, the whole passing offense has been disappointing this summer despite a major upgrade to their offensive line. Garrard has not made the progress coaches would have hoped and at this point is incapable of making much out of also ran WR's like Walker and Williamson.
