31. DeWayne White, Detroit Lions
(Bye Week: 7)
28 solo tackles, 11 assisted;
6.5 sacks, 1 INT, 1 FR, 3 FF
White has had 6.5 sacks in two
straight seasons, but last year he
did in 12 games because of a calf
injury. Hopefully the addition of
Julian Peterson as an outside
rushing linebacker will take some
of the attention away from
White. Not an elite player, but
could round out your defense or be
a free agent addition in case of
injury.
32. Andre Carter, Washington
Redskins (Bye Week: 8)
24 solo tackles, 13 assisted; 4
sacks
After a 10.5 sack season in 2007,
many had high hopes for Carter
last season. But inconsistencies
and injury gave him the
disappointing statistics you see
above. The tenth overall pick in
2001, Carter has shown flashes of
brilliance in his career, but they
have been few and far between. He
should be good for six or seven
sacks, but it is very hard to
gauge what to expect. He could
give you four, or he could give
you twelve. That kind of guy I
don't like to draft.
33. Kris Jenkins, New York Jets
(Bye Week: 9)
37 solo tackles, 15 assisted;
3.5 sacks, 1 FF, 1 BLK KCK
Jenkins started out the season
pretty strong, but nearly
disappeared in November and half
of December. The big man played
more downs than he was used to for
the Jets and just ran out of gas.
His career high in sacks is seven,
so he doesn't have a huge upside,
but as a last man on your defense
he still has some value.
34. Pat Williams, Minnesota
Vikings (Bye Week: 9)
31 solo tackles, 13 assisted; 1
sack, 1 FR, 1 BLK KCK
The
other Williams is also dealing
with that possible suspension,
but you should know about the
outcome of that before your
fantasy draft. Pat Williams is
more of the run stopping defensive
tackle so he doesn't carry quite
the same fantasy value as Kevin
Williams does. However, he makes
his share of plays during the
season just because of all of the
other marquee talent around him,
and is worth a look at the end of
drafts. Personally, I would
rather get a linebacker than
Williams, but he will score some
points.
35. Haloti Ngata, Baltimore Ravens
(Bye Week: 7)
43 solo tackles, 12 assisted; 1
sack 2 INT
Ngata is a good source of tackles
for a nose tackle, although he
needs to get his sack numbers up
considerably. He does play on one
of the most talented, playmaking
defenses, so there is the chance
that he will become more fantasy
relevant in 2009. You should use
him only as a last guy on the
defense or more effectively as an
injury replacement if something
goes wrong.
