Carson Palmer

The Bengals' franchise quarterback was back running the offense in practice, and looked like his old self again. Palmer is recovering from an elbow injury that cost him 12 games last year, and basically did in what was likely to be a bad season for the Bengals anyway. He partially tore a tendon and a ligament from his elbow and they just dragged their feet on the proper treatment. Palmer chose rest over reconstructive surgery, and so far, so good. Palmer is saying that the elbow is improving every day and he has been throwing during all team workouts. Chad Ochocinco (do I really have to call him that?) is proclaiming that the old Carson is back again, but I guess you have to consider the source.

I know that he burned his fantasy owners last season, but it seems that he is a guy that you will be able to trust again in 2009. His stock has fallen and you won't have to spend a high draft pick to get him, but if he is truly healthy, he could perform among the best QBs in the game.

Donte Stallworth

The NFL has suspended Donte Stallworth indefinitely for his guilty plea following a drunken driving arrest in which he killed a pedestrian. Stallworth disgustingly only will serve 30 days in prison, but Commissioner Roger Goodell is levying his own brand of justice. The Commissioner called his actions unacceptable and the suspension starts immediately. Now Stallworth really hasn't been a fantasy relevant receiver in a couple of seasons, but I predict that this suspension will be a minimum of eight games, maybe longer, and he likely won't be a factor at all in 2009.

Michael Crabtree Update

The 49ers' prized rookie has started to have some of the restrictions that have been placed on him after his offseason foot surgery eased up, bringing him closer to being ready when training camp opens next month. Crabtree was reamed out by coach Mike Singletary last month when he was running routes before being cleared by team's doctors to do so. I was worried about a guy like Crabtree coming to the NFL with his super sized ego. But so far it appears that he is doing everything he can to be his best when the season opens. Even though it is still early to speculate, it looks like Crabtree will open the season as the number three receiver behind Josh Morgan and Isaac Bruce. If he is half the player the 49ers thought they were drafting when they picked him, he should pass by Bruce on the depth chart at some point this season.
